Florence + The Machine talk about ‘high pressure’ X Factor performance
Florence + The Machine made their X Factor debut last October, with a performance of ‘Shake It Out’ but Florence Welch has admitted that it didn’t go as smoothly as she had hoped.
The band seemed a strange choice for the ITV show – though in fairness the performance did take place on the same weekend as the MTV EMAs, so most A list stars were at that ceremony – and Welch confessed that she was more nervous about that appearance than any before or since.
The English singer told The Daily Star that it was “one of the most high-pressured things I’ve ever done,” admitting that seconds before she was due to sing, there was a wardrobe emergency while she was standing on stage.
She said: “Just before it went live one of the dancers’ dresses got ripped and the stylist had to run on stage as they were counting down to the start.
“I had to stay really still and it was one of the most high-pressured things I’ve ever done.
“I was freaking out inside – it was so frightening.
“We all talked about how much could go wrong – I’m surprised more doesn’t happen with live TV performances.”
She may not be the show’s biggest fan but Welch confessed that she was excited about one thing, she loved meeting show judge and N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos.
She added:
“I was really excited to meet Tulisa – I think she’s amazing.”
