Fox bosses reveal Simon Cowell has big plans for X Factor USA season 2

Fox have claimed that they are happy with how The X Factor USA performed on their network last year but revealed that there will be some tweaks made before the show returns in 2012.

FOX Entertainment president Kevin Reilly was speaking yesterday at the TV critics’ winter press tour, and claimed that Simon Cowell is already planning how he can change things up for the new run of the singing show later in the year but insisted that his ideas and changes aren’t because of disappointing ratings.

Reilly explained:

“I will tell you, there are things Simon is going to do….If it did twice the rating, he would still change it. He’s relentless in that way.”

Kevin also addressed rumours that network bosses are unhappy with the performance of show host Steve Jones. It has been claimed that Fox executives are set on sacking the Welsh star before season two begins, as the American public failed to warm to him throughout the first run.

Reilly added:

“The only thing I will say is, as we know, it is a much harder job than meets the eye. I think everybody now has come to realize the value of a Ryan Seacrest. If you dialed the clock back 11 years, I’m not sure everybody in this room would have given him all of the credit at that time. Those are very hard jobs to do.

“So whether Steve’s the guy or not, you know, some of it comes under the heading of growth in general. There will be some tweaks to the show, but I’ll tell you, I’m very happy to have it, and it’s going to be a part of us for a long time.”

The X Factor ROCKS!! I wish it were starting up again in two weeks instead of the empty shell that used to be American Idol. I really like Steve, but objectively speaking The X Factor needs a dynamic American host to make the show feel less imported. Seacrest’s contract is up after this year – it would be so cool if he would jump over to XF. He’s the original, and best.
