Janet Devlin wanted to express more ‘artistry’ on The X Factor
Janet Devlin has admitted that she felt stifled on The X factor.
The Northern Irish vocalist was eliminated from the ITV show on Sunday night, but rather than feeling upset or disappointed she confessed that she was excited to be leaving, because she felt very much like a karaoke singer each weekend.
The red head revealed that she would have liked to show her own musical tastes a bit more and perform songs she was comfortable with during the series, telling The Sun:
“I wish we would get more of an opportunity to be musicians and express our artistry.”
Gary Barlow often criticsed Janet for being ‘too boring’ but she said her worst performances always occurred when she didn’t connect with the song, given to her by mentor Kelly Rowland.
“It’s hard for me to get songs that are well known and I connect to, because as soon as I don’t connect with a song and it doesn’t tell a story in my mind, then it’s like a blank canvas and that’s how mistakes happen,” she said yesterday.
Janet added:
“What I bring is the music that I like, which is quite underground,”
Devlin flew home to Northern Ireland last night to see her friends and family but will only spend one day there, before returning to London and continuing with her gigs and interviews.
