Jessie J on why she chose The Voice over The X Factor
Jessie J has revealed that she opted to take a judges role on The Voice instead of The X Factor, because she hates the cruel element of the ITV show.
The ‘Do It Like A Dude’ hitmaker was announced as one of the celebrity mentors on the new BBC series this week and says she wants to be a part of a more nurturing format, instead of taking part in the X Factor where they set out to make people a ‘laughing stock.’
On The Voice, contestants will be chosen by the four panelists without ever being seen and will be picked purely based on their vocal strength and qualities.
Speaking about the difference between the two TV talent shows, Jessie told The Sun:
‘I don’t support The X Factor putting through people that are just going to be made a laughing stock.
‘That is one of the reasons why I won’t be a judge on that show. That is not how I think the industry should be.
‘The Voice is a show where I think I fit. The idea of being a coach and an inspiration and a mentor rather than a judge is something I can relate to.
‘I only start on The Voice after the people have been filtered through who can really sing. It is not people who are going to be laughed at for entertainment.
‘And it is them picking us. It is not me turning anyone down — it is them turning me down. It is about spontaneity. It is going to be an amazing experience.’
Jessie did have a small role on this year’s X Factor though and was seen last week assisting Tulisa Contostavlos at judges houses, as she whittled down eight acts to four for the live shows.
The MOBO award winning singer was very positive and affirming with the hopefuls and we can’t wait to see how she will come across, when The Voice launches this January.
