Joe McElderry can hardly look Simon Cowell in the eye!

Joe McElderry has admitted that he is still intimidated by X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

This year’s winner told Heat magazine: “I used to be hardly able to look him in the eye! I’m getting a bit better, but he’s still a bit scary – it’s like he’s got this aura around him, like, ‘I am Simon Cowell’.”

He added: “It’s weird because when I auditioned, although I knew he’s the one I had to impress, I thought he’d be the one I’d be least starstruck by – he’s not glamorous like Cheryl or anything like that… but it was the total opposite – he’d walk down the corridor and say hello and I’d be shy, but now I can have a conversation, sort of.”

Thankfully he has developed a stronger bond with his former mentor Cheryl Cole.

He said: “She texts me all the time. She’s been texting us to say, ‘Just enjoy it all,’ and she said, ‘If you ever have a moment where you have a bit of a wobble and think, Oh God, what’s going on?, just give me a ring.’ I feel like if I was having a crisis or something, I could phone Cheryl.

“We chat all the time – late night, mornings, whenever. She’s like a really good friend. I think we’ll still be friends in 10 years’ time. I’ve got so much to thank her for.

“I’m gonna go round soon. She’s invited me for dinner!”

Joe….it was really interesting to read your comments. It has been SO noticable since the first week that your performances make Simon REALLY smile, which is not a trait he is known for. He appears to show great admiration for you, and in the process has shown a warmer side of himself. Your interviews I have seen on YouTube have all been very impressive, and in my opinion X Factor could not have asked for a better representative. You are an adorable, young gentleman, and I can not wait for your arrival to the USA!

You will have to grow a bit quicker to become aware of all the big boys in the real business world of music. If you sit in awe all the time Joe you will get taken the loan of an manipulated to one end goal, lining the pockets of those already to wealthy.

It is time to use and recognise the machine to your own ends, make contacts and more contacts so that if things go pear shaped in a years time you will be able to fall back onto something else.

Its such a shame that careers with programmes like the X factor are shorter than those who take the long and winding road to achieving anything. The average career length seems to be three years and this is inclusive of any work outside the programme. A few have been lucky ie Will Young to have lasted longer.

This sad detail is still positive news though for at least if you plan well you will achieve far more than you ever dreamed possible.

    Khoustello,

Some people do carry an aura that is observable. An aura of warmth means that the person is friendly as an example. The other aura is what some fortune tellers indicate that we all have and this is not visible accept to those who claim to see it.

I’m not aware of ‘dunderhead’ being in the dictionary, so it might be interesting to know what this secret language means.
