X Factor winner Joe McElderry has admitted that he was disappointed to lose out on Christmas number one this week, however he intends to have another bash at it in 2010.

The 18-year-old told The Daily Star: “I’ll give the Christmas No 1 a good crack next year now.

“I’m obviously really disappointed to not get to the top spot but I’ve worked hard to promote the single and I’m going to keep doing that.

“I’m too young to know of Rage but there are obviously people who like it, so I can’t complain.

“I’m just happy to have a single out.”

Joe also admitted that whilst he would love to try his hand at song writing for his debut album, he doesn’t think he’ll be much good at it.

He said:

“I’ll have a go at writing some of the songs but whether I’ll be successful or not, God only knows.

“I think you need to be sentimental to write love songs and I’m not.

“I’ve not really had my heart broken before so I don’t have much to draw experience from.

“I’m pretty boring.”
