X Factor singer Joe McElderry has insisted that after weeks of judges sending the show into deadlock with their indecisiveness, the public should be allowed to decide what way the show works from now on.

Judges were unable to decide on a act to save for three weeks running and Joe told The People:

“I cannot comment on the deadlock situation.

“But I think the public should be allowed to choose the format of the show.”

An insider added: “It’s embarrassing to have experts failing to make up their mind. American Idol judges only offer an opinion on acts, then leave it to public.

“It’s been discussed as a way forward for X Factor.”

The source added that the tension over which acts were saved, is causing problems behind the scenes between the judges.

The source said: “There may be smiles on camera, but behind the scenes it’s been full-on war.

“The judges are blaming each other for being indecisive. It’s been a stressful week and most of the problems are coming from the tension between the judges. Simon is been particularly bossy this year.

“Perhaps Joe is right – let the public decide the format and if judges should vote.
