Jon Bon Jovi has admitted that he has turned down a number of reality TV offers in recent years.
The 50 year old singer was asked to replace Steven Tyler on American Idol this year, after the Aerosmith frontman stepped down from the panel in 2012 but he opted not to join up because he wants to keep performing with his band.
In the end Keith Urban stepped into Tyler’s shoes but the offers didn’t stop there and Jon told The Sun that eh ahs also been asked to replace L.A. Reid on The X Factor USA.
“I was offered all of them last year but it’s not for me because I have a job – we’re busy.”
The Bon Jovi star isn’t sure he supports the genre of TV shows anyway and he thinks it is hard for hopefuls to acclimatise to their instant fame and still make the right decisions about the future of their careers. he added:
“It’s hard for the talent because they’re thrust into a huge spotlight, then they win these things and they’re expected to have a record that’s on a par with the greats.”
He prefers a more organic approach to the music industry and producing hits and the ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ hitmaker admitted that he took decades to perfect his first album. He said:
“I had 23 years to write my first record – I was able to develop a career in bars, I would never have won any of those contests.
“You see them there and they can hit the high note and then a year later they’re a trivia question. It’s a big ask of these kids.”
This year’s American Idol panel has been firmed up and currently Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson are preparing for the live rounds of the show.
Simon Cowell is still finalising his panel, after L.A. Reid and Britney Spears stepped down and yesterday NeYo revealed that he is in talks with Fox bosses about joining the lineup.
