GMTV presenter Kate Garraway has waded in on the whole Cheryl and Ashley Cole furore and advised the X Factor judge to take some space from her marriage.

She told new! magazine: “Lots of people are of the opinion that she should definitely leave him this time, and while I can’t say I blame them, I think it’s easy to give relationship advice but not always so easy to take it.

“Only Cheryl knows what goes on between her and Ashley behind closed doors, and she has to put everyone else’s opinions aside and do what’s best for her.

“That said, if she does want to save the relationship in the long term, she needs to put some distance between her and Ashley, so he knows that he can’t get away with behaviour like this in the future.

“If she doesn’t make some kind of stand, the respect will be gone. It’s so sad, because I’ve always got the impression that she was totally in love with him. She must be furious that all this has put their relationship in jeopardy yet again.”
