Kye Sones may have come across as a struggling musician who has never had a proper break in the industry, but it turns out that the singer once landed himself a record deal.

The 30 year old singer from Middlesex tried out for the ITV show earlier this year and on Saturday night was seen wowing the judges with a mashup of Rita Ora’s RIP and one of his own tunes.

Rita was a guest judge on the day and thought he was a total ‘superstar’, while Gary Barlow raved:

‘Kye I think the greatest thing with you is the fact that we’ve not only found a great singer, we’ve also found an artist. This is someone who knows exactly how they should sound, what they should be singing, this is extremely exciting.’

It has been reported today that Kye was once part of a band named Diagram Of The Heart, who were formed in 2009 and signed to the Sony label in the same year.

The album contained a song which attacked shows such as the X Factor and speaking in an interview, Kye admitted that he was worried about the ‘darker’ side of TV talent shows.

He explained:

“Everyone wants to be famous with going on X Factor and going on Big Brother, and I don’t think people know the darker side of it that comes with it, like Britney Spears shaving all her hair off and people losing their minds.”

An X Factor official has defended Sones, saying that people who used to have deals are of course allowed to enter the show and that the handsome singer will still benefit from the mentoring of one of their famous judges.

They told The Sun: “People with raw talent all stand the same chance in the competition, whether they have been in the business before or not.

“Kye will still need to be mentored and developed if he gets through to the live stages.”

Kye spoke out on Twitter, saying that he has worked hard t make it onto the show. He tweeted:

‘Once again thank you for all your kind tweets today. Have worked so so hard to even just get this point. Ups and downs but will #NeverGiveUp’

He’s obviously still a big Rita Ora fan, as he added:

‘@RitaOra Album out now!!! make sure u grab a copy!! I have!! ’
