Labrinth loves Simon Cowell and Sing Date….the X Factor not so much!
It seems that despite being signed to SYCO record label and being close pals with Simon Cowell, Labrinth is not a fan of The X Factor.
The “Earthquake” hitmaker was Cowell’s first non-talent show signing in six years and it seems he is proud of this fact as he is no big fan of the television genre.
Speaking to OMG Yahoo this evening, the 23 year old singer / songwriter admitted that he thinks the show focuses on making people famous and not on talent, or musicality.
He explained:
“X Factor isn’t about musicians; it’s about people that want to be famous”
“I don’t watch it — it isn’t interesting to me. I think X Factor is… the X Factor, that’s it.”
However the star did take time to big up his label boss and said that working with Simon Cowell is a dream come true, because of the artistic licence he allows his musicians to exercise.
He added: “It’s not my thing, but if you want to be a singer then Simon Cowell is your man, but if you are an artist you do your own thing.”
That all seems a little bit contradictory to us.
While Labrinth may not be a fan of the X Factor, he hasn’t written off reality TV altogether and this week he revealed that he is loving new Sky Living series ‘Sing Date.’ The musical dating TV series launched recently on the digital channel and taking to Twitter a few days ago the star posted a picture of the Sing Date logo, with the caption:
‘Message to all A&R…. I hope your up watching this. Forget @xfactor mate this is the future!’
We’re glad he likes the show, it’s a secret and guilty pleasure of ours too!
