Laura White - X factor 2008

Singer/songwriter Laura White has claimed that she is unlike other X Factor stars, because she signed to a small, independent record label.

Laura was controversially sent home from the ITV show in week five of last year’s series.

She told the BBC: “I have done it completely different. In a way this is why I don’t associate myself with a normal X Factor contestant just because I literally was the only one that didn’t sign a massive major deal.

“I went to a smaller independent label. I’ve signed to the label which [songwriter] Ian Green is with.”

She continued: “In that sense I have to work a lot harder to speak to my fans more and I have to work harder in general because I don’t have a massive major label pushing me.”

When asked if she will watch the new series of The X Factor, she added: “I will. I always say to everybody it is the most amazing show on TV. When I was on it I felt so blessed because it can literally change somebody’s life so much.”

Yep! That’s right Laura White, Nobody wants to sign you because they have more talented people to sign out there, just like Ruth and Alex they have both got major record deals because they are genuine, talented and have what it takes to be a star and I’m sure there will be whole lot more talent out there on this years x factor, so give me one good reason why any of us should bother with this x factor reject. I think Laura’s voice is well and truly overrated she is really overweight for a 21 year old wannabe pop star she has no stage presence and never will why don’t she just give up it’s cringe worthy. No matter how hard she tries she will never ever have what it takes it’s like a donkey trying to be Red rum the race hourse. Laura is common Fake fat annoying and has no star quality we gave her a chance last year and she blew it for herself when she shacked up with a x factor executive who is almost 20 years older then her she tried to denied the affair to her fans/ public but the truth came out the public don’t like dishonest contestants the public voted her out. It is rumour has it that she set up a petition for herself, and faked the votes on her petition to make herself look popular and get free publicity and it seems like she could be at it again she is so desperate for fame how very sad, I reckon she must think we were all born yesterday. I won’t be buying her record. I wonder why no major record company won’t touch her reason being they know what she’s about I rest my case.

Laura White, is a very talented singer songwriter and the fact that she has signed to a smaller label will mean that her career will be her life. When you sign to an independent label the company will look after your interests for real rather than their own. Laura has a very long musical career to look forward to which when you consider is so very difficult to get is a massive achievement. Laura in a way has fallen on her feet and taken what is known as the ‘the Long and Winding Road’ route, the course taken by the majority of regional singers and songwriters who spend 20 – 30 years plying their art and craft.

The reason why Laura is so very different from the Normal X factor contestant is because she is truly talented and irrespective of reports into her personal life this should never infringe upon a singer or songwriters road to success. This bickering must end. Laura is deserving of any success she can get.Far more deserving than those taking the fast route without any leaning or background in music whatseover, especially more deserving than those who feel that stardom is created by the touching of a few buttons and levers in a studio to create voices that are not worthy in the beginning.

In defense of the X factor the only good thing the programme achieves is for those that are talented who go through the audition doors, is that they will get marketing and promotion whether it be good or bad press. The likes of such being something a regional based singer or songwriter could never afford. In a way when the press is bad it still promotes you even in a negative light. No media promotion is therefore to bad.

Vote rigging is a common complaint every year. It can not be true that contestants have any control of that, they are not responsible for the deals signed by the telephone companies.

With respect to affairs of the heart its none of our business.

Laura white is not talented enough she is very overrated it’s obvious it’s all hype she will do very well in working mens club and pubs but will never be a huge artist If I had to put money on it I would say the dream was well and truly over for Laura I think everyone has forgotten about her and are now onto the next big thing.
Laura has missed the boat, her voice sometimes sounded good but mostly it was quite terrible poor Laura. someone has to tell her she does not have what it takes. I agree with Sarah she should go and join the pile of x factor rejects there’s allot of talented people out there it’s sad for her but I’m only saying what I feel is true and most other people are thinking.

Isn’t it time to get real?

The X factor is not the ultimate means to success. Being successful in the world of music can mean working as a regional singer or it can mean achieving a recording contract. A true life recording contract is never anything like a million pounds as that figure is closer to between 4 and 8 persons contracts at 125 – 250 thousand each. All payable in what’s known as record company advances, which is still not yours until you’ve actually earned it by sales.

The real dream is people who achieve performing in front of audiences for a long career span.

I have heard many artists who are better than those televised on our screens in theatres, civic venues and city halls. All of them are regional singers, indeed some sing in churches and cathedrals others equally talented in pubs and clubs. For anyone involved in a real music network there are indeed far more than a few hundred to a thousand talented singers and songwriters underground, who work like mad, trying to keep their heads above water, who are the great unsigned.

The music profession is similar to that of the acting world riddled with gifted people who get left behind, but those who are wise will work regionally and class that as having been successful. After all one of the meanings of professional is earning a living at what you do.

The X Factor for anyone truly talented is a farce, however that carrot is attractive and there will be no end to the numbers auditioning trying out their chances at the X factor lottery. The X factor provides for those who are average to good, a vehicle by which the artist can be marketed and promoted on a national scale, and that is the only advantage it has over what local regional artists can do for themselves. As they can’t afford it.
