On tonight’s bootcamp show, Liam Payne’s X Factor journey appeared to be over. The 16 year old singer looked dejected as Simon Cowell announced the boys through to judges houses and he wasn’t one of them.
Cowell was quite critical of Payne on last night’s Xtra Factor, when he said:
“The world we live in today, compared to a year ago is that you have to stand out from the rest. So someone like Liam is an example of who, maybe a year or two years ago, I would have thought of as a good contestant on this show. But now he just bores the pants off me.”
He added that Liam’s talent is “limited” and has a distinct “ceiling” saying:
“When there’s a ceiling on somebody’s talent, which there is with Liam, you can only take him so far, so you’re always limited by that. When you’re working with someone that’s frustrating, because you want to feel that you can throw anything at them and they’ll cope with it or make it better.
However Simon must have seen some potential in the youngster, as he later called Liam and other unsuccessful hopefuls Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles & Zain Malik back to the stage and asked if they would be prepared to join forces and form a new boyband.
Nicole said: “We thought of each of you as individuals and we thought you were too talented to let go of. We thought it would be a great idea to have two separate groups.”
Simon told the gobsmacked singers: “We’ve decided to put you both through to Judges’ Houses. This is a lifeline. You’ve got to work, 10, 12, 14 hours a day, every single day and take this opportunity. You got a real shot here guys.”
The four teenagers quickly agreed and insiders suggest that they have now named themselves 1 Direction and are well on their way to performing on the live shows.
Liam has attracted thousands of followers and fans since his audition was shown on Saturday and we’d love to hear what you think of Simon’s decision. Would you prefer to see Liam as a solo singer, or are you excited to get your first glimpse of his new band? Leave your comments below.
