Mrs Angry vs X Factor Format and Rachel Hylton

I have several moans about the X Factor today; I’m sure you can guess what one of them is about… Laura White’s exit. Of course I don’t need to go into detail with that one because everyone’s outraged that someone so talented should leave the show at any stage – never mind this stage – so I’m not going to keep picking at that scab…

However, I feel very badly for Ruth who must be feeling terrible with this awful row about Laura leaving going on, given that she was the one who stayed. Neither of these two incredibly talented women should have been put in the bottom two and nobody seems to know how this happened, but Ruth deserves her place 100%.

Anyone who saw her breathtaking performance of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door cannot possibly begrudge her her place. I would go and buy that track in a heartbeat. I’ve watched the video of her singing it on YouTube about fifty times now; Ruth’s stage presence – as well as her amazing vocal – was incredibly good and she is without any question under rated and under challenged in the X Factor. Take a look at it and tell me you disagree… I won’t believe you of course.

Vastly talented rock singers don’t historically do that well in the show – remember the fabulous Ben and Tabby? – because the mentors tend to stick with the mainstream pop songs and rarely do the contestants get the chance to demonstrate abilities such as those Ruth showed on Saturday.

If she had been in the sing-off against almost anyone else – with perhaps the exception of Alexandra – she would have stayed based on that performance alone and there would have been no big row over it.

Yes it was incredibly stupid that Laura left but Ruth deserves to stay and in the backlash over Laura, we’re losing sight of that. Ditto Austin; he should not have gone.

What X Factor bosses need to do is change the format of the show because clearly, there’s been a big cock up somewhere. Either the public vote is being greatly influenced by the likes of the gorgeous Chris Moyles – which frankly defeats the object of the entire show – or else the phone lines are overloaded, thereby causing thousands of votes to go astray, or the public need to vote for who they want to leave, not who they want to stay.

Personally, I haven’t been voting because there’s so many of them who I want to stay I’d run up a massive phone bill. If I could vote only for who I want to go, I’d vote every week.

Then there is of course tactical voting and I don’t know why anyone’s shocked about it. Since when is this news? Of course some of the judges will want to get rid of the competition and that’s why they shouldn’t have a say in that format. What I believe needs to happen is that we the public vote off who we weren’t impressed with and THEN the judges choose out of the bottom two.

This would be much fairer and would mean that those who deserve to stay, stay.

The standard of the talent in this year’s show has to be among the highest there has ever been on X Factor. For instance, when Leona was on the show, there was no question that she was going to win. It was a foregone conclusion from the moment she stepped on the stage but this year, it’s going to be impossible to guess, especially if Laura and Austin had both stayed.

But again, at the risk of repeating myself, we mustn’t lose sight of the fact that Ruth earned her place on the show on Saturday and that shouldn’t be forgotten in the hoohar over Laura.

Now my final moan is about the fact that Rachel wasn’t even in the bottom two. Her song choice, her look and her delivery of the song on Saturday was pants. I have to say, I don’t like Rachel so maybe I’m biased, but I thought she was off key, lacked any enthusiasm, failed to do the song any kind of justice and is in general a whiny, demanding, arrogant, aggressive and irritating woman.

She talks over the judges and presenters all the time – notably Holly on Xtra Factor – and she considers she knows better than everyone else and considers she’s better than everyone else. Newsflash Rachel, you’re not.

In my opinion, she should have gone long ago but she most definitely should have gone on Saturday based on her performance on the night.

This is a girl who, by her own admission, has lived a life that hasn’t been a pretty one; ok, no harm no foul there, and good luck to her in making good… IF she was willing to take the opportunities offered with good grace and a semblance of humility and was willing to acknowledge the fact that while she’s been busy doing the things she repeatedly tells us she isn’t proud of, her mentor and the rest of the X Factor judges and bosses have spent years utilising their talent and business sense to become multi-millionaires and achieve worldwide fame.

Point being Rachel, you don’t know better than them so shut up and listen to them. And when you’re on a show, but not the centre of attention, don’t try to butt in every two seconds and be quiet while someone else gets a word in edgeways.

She seems to think her talent will see her through. Well again, newsflash Rachel; Laura has more talent in her little finger than you do and she’s now gone. She is also a much nicer person and was grateful for the chances X Factor gave her and didn’t spend almost every waking minute bemoaning her lot and having diva style strops that she hasn’t earned the right to have.

So, to sum up, get rid of Rachel, bring back Laura and don’t blame Ruth for still being there; she deserves to be.

And finally, Simon and other X Factor bosses – change the voting format. Yes, you’ll lose some money but at this rate, you might lose the whole show if you don’t.

Ruth deserved to stay on Saturday, she was the better performer. I think all the newspapers and all the people signin the petitions to get Laura back should stop to think how Ruth must be feeling in all this. She doesnt deserve it and it most certainly isnt Ruths fault Lauras gone. Also instead of the petition they should of put there money where their mouth is and voted for Laura on Saturday.
I hope Ruth can go on to win this becasue shes the best one there in my oppinion. She puts her heart and soul into her performances and has been consistant all the way through.
    RUTH TO WIN! x

Hey Mrs Angry, wow I couldn’t agree with you more. It would be a lot fairer if we could ring in to vote OFF contestants based on their performances, instead of voting to keep them in, because that way the weakest contestants would be gradually voted out, leaving the strongest competitors to battle it out until the end. Then during the final the public could vote for who to win, you know like on Big Brother or whatever. That would make for a much more credible show. I think that one of the biggest problems this show has is that the public tend to assume that the most talented singers will get a load of votes anyway, so they decide to instead vote for who they feel sorry for, etc. I think that is what happened with Rachel and Daniel being saved AGAIN this week.
The judges reasoning for voting off Austin was apparently because they felt Rachel had a raw talent and needed time to prove herself to the public. Well by that time Rachel had already had 4 weeks and had delivered one bad performance after another, except on the big band night, when she finally improved, but even that night she was no better than anyone else. On the other hand, Austin’s performances have been consistently original and phenomenal, proving his talent and his versatility. His performance of Billie-Jean was OUTSTANDING. Better than Chris Cornell and David Cook from American Idol (I have done my research, lol). Everyone I know thought so, and yet Louis ripped him to shreds talking about the arrangement! Clearly Louis doesnt know what he is talking about and it was just a chance for him to have a dig at Simons contestant. Austin also comes across as such a down-to-earth and sweet gentleman. Without a doubt, the most talented male ever to enter any of these competitions. He is also a musician and a songwriter, unlike many other stars who have made it big simply by standing in front of a mic and singing other peoples songs.
So this week was Rachel’s chance to make it up to the judges for keeping her in, but she delivered yet another below average, forgetful performance. And yet the judges pressured the public to keep her in. I’m sure Austin would have done a mind-blowing performance of Mariah Carey if he had been given the chance. I think if Austin had been put through to the live shows last year he could have won the whole thing, because last year the voting seemed to be a lot fairer. Also, it took Leon Jackson weeks to really impress the judges, and since Austin was so brilliant from the beginning JUST IMAGINE how incredible he would have gotten with more time in the competition, after he really got time to get comfortable and confident in himself. Last year, it is said that the judges didn’t put him through because he didn’t act like he “wanted it” enough. Yet this year they are criticizing him for apparently wanting it “too much” or being desperate. Louis said he was “trying too hard”. Well what is the point in even being in the competition if you aren’t going to give it 100%?! Louis Walsh is a hypocritical, self-contradicting, unreasonable idiot and is really causing a lot of public outrage.
Yes, I also agree Ruth deserved to stay, she is passionate, fiery and talented, but really neither her nor Laura should have been in the bottom 2. Should have been Rachel, Daniel or sadly Eoghan. Diana should not be given a free ride to the final either. I am sorry but I really dont think Diana is talented at all. Her voice is weak and limited, and her hands in the face all the time is so annoying! What is special about this girl? The only reason she is “unique” as they say is coz, unlike most of the others, i.e. Austin and Laura, Diana is out of her league in this show. And just coz she managed to reach some of the higher notes during disco week doesnt mean that performance was good, because her voice still doesn’t compare to the other contestants that have been voted out in the past 2 weeks. The judges are lowering the bar for her, for some reason. FOR GODS SAKE, she sat down for the entire thing Blondie performance, and it was a DANCE song. AUSTIN HAD THE FULL PACKAGE. Why is there so much media coverage of the Laura White petition, but none of the Austin Drage petition. His was there first!

I’m watching x-factor online from Canada and Laura was my favourite. I do like Rachel too but I was shocked and appalled to see Laura go. I wish Rachel would sing like she did in her very first audition though. She’s starting to suck.

If Laura makes an album, I’ll buy it for sure. And I know a lot of other Canadians that would too. She has great style (I agree with Simon that she should just be herself) and HUGE talent.

  4. Damian says:

Maybe Laura didn’t deserve to go home, but you’re losing sight of the fact that she is a bit of a one trick pony and she hasn’t developed much during the series, unlike the other acts. If you stand still you get overtaken and I don’t think you can blame the voting system. If people liked her so much and considered she had the X factor they would have voted for her and she wouldn’t have been in the bottom two. Her performance on the night wasn’t that good anyway. Accept it and get over it! Good luck also to Ruth who did a great rendition and gives the most believable performances of the lot of them – her response to being saved was incredibly gracious.

One thing we do agree on – that awful Rachel, who is a whiny self-opinionated and arrogant old bag! She can’t even sing that well and I don’t know how the judges gave her half-decent comments on the night, unless they couldn’t hear her properly. The sooner she goes the better!
