A few weeks back there were many competitors for the honour of Christmas number one. Westlife were putting final touches on a grand single with the legendary Diana Ross, Crazy Frog was plotting a return with his inimitable version of “Jingle Bells,” and perennial competitor Robbie Williams was revving up with an Elvis Presley tribute. However, when the folk duo that could, Nizlopi, landed at the top of the singles chart this past week easily outselling the 3 records mentioned above, the picture abruptly changed.

Now it appears the competition is between Nizlopi’s charming, utterly unique “The JCB Song” and the first single by the latest X Factor talent competition winner Shayne Ward. The suspense will be over when the charts are first announced on the BBC’s Top of the Pops on Christmas Day this Sunday.
