Whoop, whoop! If you were wondering what to buy your best friend for Christmas, well wonder no more because it seems you will be able to gift them a copy of One Direction’s second album.

The boys recently revealed that they have been working hard on the new record, song writing while on their American tour, as well as working on some of the tracks in Sweden last month.

Speaking to The Daily Star today, a source close to Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne has revealed that the band’s management hopes to have the writing, recording and video work all wrapped up within the next few months, so that they can release the album in the run up to the lucrative Christmas period.

One insider said:

“The plan is to have a new single out around November, with the album to follow a week or two later.”

We don’t know if 1D fans will be able to wait that long though as that leaves a 13 month gap between records and we are definitely beginning to crave some new 1D tunes.

The boys will be doing well if they can replicate the success of their first album with their second.

‘Up All Night’ peaked at number two in the UK album charts last year, selling 138,163 copies, the highest sales for a number two album in 2011, and became the fastest-selling debut album on the UK Albums Chart of 2011.

Released in November, Up All Night became the third biggest-selling debut album and the sixteenth biggest-selling album on UK Albums Chart of 2011, with 468,000 copies sold.

In the American, the record went straight to number one on the Billboard 200, selling 176,000 copies in its first week, which made Harry, Zayn, Liam, Louis and Niall the first British group to debut at number one with their first album. The album also topped the charts in fifteen other countries.

Not bad for a bunch of teenagers who only met a year before!

Meanwhile, if you want to know what sort of material will be on the second album, we think it’s fair to predict that there will be a few soppy numbers at least, as Louis Tomlinson has admitted that he, Liam and Zayn have been penning tracks inspired by their girlfriends.
