One Direction 2012: Harry Styles & Louis Tomlinson admit that they did copy The Clash for ‘Live While We’re Young’
One Direction may just have landed themselves in a whole lot of hot water!
Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson have been responding to claims that they ripped off The Clash’s hit song ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ for their new tune ‘Live While We’re Young’ and we don’t think they’ve helped their case much.
The handsome singers admitted that they wee kind of influenced by the iconic track when writing their latest single and telling BBC News Haz confessed:
“It was kind of on purpose though. It’s a great riff, so.”
Louis, tried to do a bit of damage limitation though and drew fans attention to the fact that their first single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ has a very similar sound to Grease song ‘Summer Nights’.
He added:
“It’s a bit like the first single where the opening riff sounds similar to a certain film.”
Tomlinson defended their songwriting process, saying that it difficult to come up with a riff or a chorus that isn’t at least slightly derivative.
He continued:
“I assume it must be quite difficult to do a unique riff now because there have been so many songs – surely there’s only so many riffs you can pull out?”
Maybe he should speak to his old pal Ed Sheeran….he seems to be able to manage it…
What do you think of Louis and Harry’s explanation? Listen to the two songs and leave your comments below….

Who cares?! If the people in Grease and The Clash haven’t complained why do they need to draw attention to it? They’re still great songs and great guys.
This is insulting. They copied The Clash, they copied the Ramones shirt logo, they shot a music video at the same place Blink 182 did, and they walked on Abbey Road. Way to be original.
