Yesterday, One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles drove over to his parents’ home in Holmes Chapel to have Sunday lunch with his family…

Quite an ordinary thing for most people to do, but for Harry, even something so mundane has to be organised with military precision because wherever he goes, mobs of screaming fans are waiting.

And of course, that applies to Harry’s band mates Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson as well.

But of the scenes outside Harry’s home yesterday, the Daily Mail – whose photographer caught the shot above – reports, “Upon arriving at his family home in the village of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, earlier today, Harry found himself quickly mobbed by a group of teenage fans.

“The star’s black Range Rover hadn’t even pulled into his driveway when the group of about 20 girls excitedly surrounded the vehicle…”

The article goes on to say that Harry was “seemingly unable to move” as he tried to get out of his car to walk the short distance to his parents’ house.

Now, many of 1D’s fans might be too young to remember how press attention contributed – so say many commentators on the subject – to Princess Diana’s death, given it was believed at the time of her fatal car crash in Paris that her car was being chased by photographers…

And of course, when fans surround a moving vehicle as these girls did yesterday, surely that’s a disaster waiting to happen?

Then of course there’s the issue of how some psychopaths target famous people for one reason or another, such as Mark David Chapman shooting and killing John Lennon, who, in the picture below, is seen waiting while John signed his autograph for him.

I just hope that 1D’s security men are able to keep them safe, but I think the press also need to back off from these boys somewhat, and ditto for their fans, because in all this melee, someone getting hurt is an inevitability, and only a matter of time.
