Y’know that moment when something your mum or dad says or does – like planting a big kiss on you at the school gates, giving you a Barbie lunchbox that they assume you’ll love  (when you’re 16 and a boy) or dad dancing at your party – causes you horrific embarrassment?

Well imagine how bad that feeling will be for One Direction star Niall Horan when he reads today’s report in the Daily Mirror that his dad Bobby has said his son will make “a wonderful husband” for some lucky girl.

But what’s perhaps worse is that Bobby went on to reveal that the constant attention Niall receives from 1D’s legion of girl fans “scares him.”

Bobby said, “There are hordes of young girls around him, and not much room to breathe anywhere. He says it can be frightening.

“Coming out of airports and girls crowding around their cars, he’s started to get really claustrophobic.”

But when it comes to wooing the ladies, Bobby reckons Niall leaves that to flirting professional Harry Styles…

He said, “Harry knows how to win the girls over and charm them. But he’s a real gent, a lovely, well-mannered, well brought up lad. ”

On the subject of how good a catch Niall will be for a lady one day, Bobby said, “He has a very soft side to him. His mother taught him to bake… he can do cupcakes.

“He had to look after himself a lot because I was working, so from the age of seven he had to do his own washing, his own ironing and often his own cooking.

“To my mind all kids should be able to do what he can.

“When he was at school I tried to get home for 4.30pm, but I started early mornings, so Niall had to get himself up and walk the mile-and-a-half to school.

“So he’s well-adapted for where he is now… independent and away from home. He’ll make someone a wonderful husband.”

Jeez Bobby, why not just put Niall on eBay and have done with it!

Bobby added, “He always dressed himself well and had a nice style about him. He never left the house without making sure he looked good.”

But if Niall doesn’t find a wife in a hurry, and he comes home to dad, his room’s just ready and waiting for him.

Bobby said, “I converted the garage for him because his guitar playing was making such a noise and we’re so close to the house next door.

“His room is the biggest in the house, two walls are red, and two are sky blue.

“He’s got some signed posters from football players, Danny Simpson from Newcastle United and Jamie Ward from Derby County because we’re Derby supporters.”

Finally, Bobby confirmed press reports that he wouldn’t allow Niall to buy him a house, adding, “I don’t know whether it’s true that he’s made £2million, but if it is, it’s all his. I want absolutely nothing from him, I’m happy with what I’ve got.

“Niall knows I love my work and wouldn’t want to stop, so he’s not going to force money on to me. I love working at Tesco.

“I’m up at five and I’m at work at six and meet people all day long and I love it.

“I hope he invests his money very wisely and doesn’t do anything airy fairy with it.”
