Zayn Malik has opened up about his relationship with Rebecca Ferguson.

The One Direction singer was with the former X Factor runner up for a period of three months back in 2011 and at the time, both seemed thoroughly loved up, with him even playing happy families with her two young children.

However Malik has revealed that their eventual split was a far from amicable one and told Now magazine:

“It was just a weird situation and a weird time I was going through being away from home on the X Factor tour.”

It sounds like he was looking for a bit of a mother figure and Zayn added:

“To get that comfort and friendship from someone was nice.”

It seems as though he was in the romance for the wrong reasons though and reading between the lines, we think Malik did something wrong at the end of the relationship. He continued:

“I think it was a wrong decision to make at such a young age. Then it did end quite badly so we don’t talk any more.”

On the fact that Becs was a baby mamma of two, the 1D hunk admitted that her children did cause some problems for them as a couple and confessed:

“That was definitely unrealistic. That’s evident now.”

Rebecca has spoken out about her past relationship with the teen idol and has never been very complimentary about the star. Most recently she ranted:

‘I don’t ever, ever speak to him. I have maintained friends with some exes, it just depends on the person.’

I never felt the need to continue with his friendship.’

Malik has never spoken out on the issue before now and explaining his decision to stay quiet on it all he said:

“I tried to stay away from getting into that because I’m not interested in the technicalities of whatever happened.

“It was just a wrong idea from the start,” Zayn concluded. “It shouldn’t have happened. It did. And then we dealt with it and went our separate ways.”

Thankfully Malik is now loved up again and seems much happier with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards for now.

We hope he has learned his lesson though.
