One Direction choreographer praises ‘unselfish’ Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne & Louis Tomlinson!
One Direction’s choreographer has praised the band and their approach to dancing on stage.
Paul Roberts is working with Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson on their current Take Me Home tour and while Jason Gardiner might not think they do much on stage, Paul insists that they have their own way of moving and performing and that it’s a very ‘organic’ style.
Roberts claims that the X Factor stars prefer not to take on hugely choreographed routines or structured dance sequences. Instead they like to have a bit of ‘fun’ during their concerts.
He said: ”There are no synchronised dance steps, it’s more organic. The boys just want to go on stage and have fun.
”They are brilliant at being aware of each other on stage, and unselfish.”
He claimed that despite their lack of dance training, the five singers always look out for one another and are aware of how they look on stage and where they need to be. He continued:
”They think, ‘I know Paul has asked us to be equally spaced across the front stage, but we are a little lopsided’, so someone takes the initiative and fills the space.”
The lads aren’t divas either and they readily admit when they get moves or positions wrong and try to rectify the situation as soon as possible.
Paul told The Sun that he watches them from the side of the stage, constantly giving hand signals and instructions but claims the lads don’t mind one bit. He continued:
”I’m on the side of the stage. The boys take the mickey out of me for it. They know and understand the hand signals.
”When they make a mistake and things go wrong, they come off stage and immediately apologise.”
This explanation may please singer songwriter Jake Bugg who recently claimed he was ”suspicious” of One Direction’s dancing during their live performances.
He said: ”I find that there’s too much choreography going on to be able to sing live as well, which is always quite suspicious in my eyes.”
We would think that Paul has his work cut out with Zayn in particular, as the singer recently admitted that he still hates dancing as much as he did back in his X Factor days.
Back when he was trying out for the ITV show the young hunk struggled to perform during a dance masterclass and almost walked away from the competition for good. Can you imagine how bad that would have been. 1D without Zayn doesn’t bear thinking about right?
