One Direction are just going from strength to strength at the minute.

Just a week after we announced that their debut album ‘Up All Night’ had topped the album charts in both Sweden and Italy, the boys went on to win a Brit Award for Best British single and today we have discovered that they are storming up the American charts too.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson released their debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ – which broke a number of sales records when it was released in the UK last year – in The States on Valentines Day (14th February) and after a week of sales, it has debuted at number 28 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Billboard have reported that this amazing result, is the first time that a British act has entered their top 30, during the first week of sales, since The Verve released “Bittersweet Symphony” in March 1998.

In February 2008, Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 85, though she did then go on to peak at number one for four non-consecutive weeks.

As the Billboard chart is based on sales and airplay, it is expected that One Direction’s single will rise up the chart in coming weeks, as radio stations start to pay more attention to the teen sensations. They boys will be travelling to America this week to promote the single, their new album which will be released next week and to embark on their first ever US tour.

What Makes You Beautiful was One Direction’s lead single from their album ‘Up All Night’ and has topped charts all over the world. They debuted at number one in the Irish and British charts last September and in the UK received the most pre-orders ever for a Sony Music Entertainment single.

One Direction will perform the track on the Today Show, 12 March 2012.

Their UK fans shouldn’t feel left out though, as they also have a lot to be grateful for following the boys’ announcement at the Brit Awards on Tuesday. They revealed that in 2013 they will be embarking on their first ever arena tour…..tickets will be released this Friday! More details here.
