One Direction just behind Justin Bieber on Billboard Social 50!

One Direction are closing in on Justin Bieber and it’s no surprise that he wants to harness their magic and work with the boys on a new song.

It has been reported that while Justin is currently claiming the top spot on the The Billboard Social 50 in America, 1D are snapping at his heels and sitting in second place, their highest position to date.

Other world famous artists comprise the rest of the top five, and the teen sensations are followed by Barbadian star Rihanna, British singer Adele and US group. Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson certainly are in good company.

The social 50 chart is comprised by experts who work out which artists are most popular on online sites such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, MySpace, VEVO and others.

Of course social media has been a huge part of One Direction’s success to date, with each member of the band having more than two million followers and much of their popularity being born on the micro blogging site.

The band also have a strong Facebook following, with more than five million likes on their official band page.

One Direction arrived this week in New Zealand and will kick off their first concert in the country today. There will be two shows today and one tomorrow and then the boys will jet back to the UK and enjoy some down time, before returning to America next month for their US arena tour.

Do they ever stop?

Classic example of artists arriving in the new wave of exposure in the eye of social media. Justin Bieber is by far one of the most trending topics mentioned on Twitter, and for One Direction to follow closely behind, they sure have done something right. With a handsome group of young lads, all that is needed is a few cheeky tweets and snaps of them and that would send the girls on a frenzy all over the web.
