It’s undeniable that the One Direction lads have had such a successful 2013.
They recently polished off a world tour and they also announced that they’re heading back out on tour later this year, but this time, they’re taking to Stadium venues as they’ve completely outgrown the arenas and one member of the group is very thankful for that.
Not only that, the lads – Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik achieved the best-selling album of 2013 with their latest release, Midnight Memories.
In total, 685,000 copies of the album had been sold up until the closing of the year-end charts. Released on November 25 in the UK, Midnight Memories debuted at number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with over 237,000 copies sold in its first week alone. So much so, the album also became the fastest seller of the year.
The lads have managed to take the crown from Emeli Sande, who now sits in second place with her debut album, Our version of Events.
Elsewhere, the lads had 1D day where they hosted a whopping 7 our live stream in which they gave back to their fans. They previewed their new album, went a bit crazy and did a few sketches. We also got to see special footage from their Take me Home Tour.
Niall tweeted: “Happy new year ! thank you for an incredible 2013 , let’s make 2014 the best yet ! love you (sic)”.
2013 has most certainly been the year of One Direction as their new album, Midnight Memories, showed off a more mature and rocky sound for the lads and they even wrote 10 songs on the album.
There have of course been a *few* reports hit the headlines about their relationships throughout the year, but we’re going to put that matter on the backburner for now.
So, we hope One Direction have a happy new year and that 2014 is good to them … not that they can become any bigger than they are, right?
