MTV have literally just announced the nominations for this year’s Video Music Awards and guess who is one the list?

Yep, that’s right, our favourite lads from one Direction have been put up in not one but two categories and even better than that, the hunky boys will even be performing at the award ceremony!

Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have been named in the ‘Best Pop Video’ and ‘Best New Artist’ categories but winning in either group will be no walk in the park.

The X Factor stars face stiff competition from some major artists. In the pop video category, 1D will have to fight off Maroon 5’s “Payphone”, Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ fun.’s “We Are Young” and Rihanna’s “We Found Love”.4

For the new artist gong, the lads are up against rival band The Wanted, ‘Call Me Maybe’ hitmaker Carly Rae Jepsen, fun and Frank Ocean.

The lads will be making a trip back to America in mid August and it looks like they’ll be staying for a few weeks as the MTV ceremony takes place on the 6th of September, at the massive Staples Center in LA.

On being nominated and agreeing to perform, Liam said:

“We’re really looking forward to the VMAs.

“It’s quite nerve-racking as well, because obviously there’s been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. Now we want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows?”

He added:

“I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion! I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we’ll do so far.”

Harry Styles also seems quite excited by the prospect and has dedicated their showcase to the legions of Directioners all around the globe. He continued:

“It’s a big occasion to perform at the VMAs, and we’re here for our fans. So this one’s for our fans.”
