One Direction’s Liam Payne & Louis Tomlinson support Tom Daley after sick tweet sees 17 year old arrested
The stars of One Direction have reached out to offer their support to Olympic hopeful Tom Daley.
The 18 year old reached fourth place in the synchronised diving event with partner Pete Waterfield yesterday but was barraged by a follower on Twitter, who claimed that he had let his late father down by failing to bring home a medal for Great Britain.
Tom’s dad Rob was his biggest supporter and passed away, aged 40, after a battle with cancer last year.
Daley retweeted the message to his fans yesterday. It read:
‘@TomDaley1994 you let your dad down i hope you know that’
Tom replied:
‘After giving it my all…you get idiot’s sending me this.’
One Direction star Liam Payne lent his support to the diver, writing:
‘@TomDaley1994 ignore them dikheads mate we all sat and watched you today and we thought u did incredible.’
Louis Tomlinson is also a fan and praised Tom’s talent, tweeting this week:
‘Sat watching @tomdaley1994 ‘s doc on BBC. Very moving, seems a great guy!’
It has since been confirmed that police have arrested the youth responsible for the hateful message and a spokesperson said:
‘A 17-year-old man was arrested by Dorset Police officers in the early hours this morning at a guesthouse in the Weymouth area on suspicion of malicious communications.’
‘He is currently helping police with their inquiries.’

I don’t think it matters what place u get just the fact that u r a world class athlete competing in the Olympics proves u have an amazing talent…not that ppl who aren’t in the Olympics aren’t great oh u know what I mean lol
just the fact that you were in the olympics is outstanding, it would have been even better if you could have braught home a medal but you came fourth and did amazingly.you did britain proud and im sure your dad will be proud of what you acheived too.:)
I think Tom Daley did very well,4th is amazing and he done the whole country proud yet alone his dad, he has all the supporters proud so he should just forget all of his haters, he was amazing and he should rememeber that
I’m glad the police acted + arrested the hater. He actually posted much worse stuff than the one quoted later on. It’s time people realised that they can’t hide behind Twitter accounts to post hate + cyber bully people, hope they charge him and he’s stuck with a criminal record.
i think he did great. he dont need any haters messing him up.
Thy didn’t not have to arrest the guy , it was a little comment . I think they over reacted, but over all he did good on his dive.
I have that rileyy guy on twitter and he’s not a nice person he gives abuse everyone.. And some of the abuse is horrid. I saw all the sweets he sent to tom and also tweets he sent about him to other people including a threat to ” drown” him.. The things he’s said to everyone over the past few months in glad he did x
They didn’t over react at all, did you actually read the tweets he posted? They were disgusting, many much worse than the one quoted.
Screw the haters. Tom did AMAZING and made his country and father extremely proud. No eighteen year old should have to put up with such disgusting verbal hate. Tom, being a world class diver luckily has millions of fans to support him through this tough past year and the years to come. Stay strong Tom, you’re an amazing talented young man and you’ll SMASH individual. Much love to you and your family xxxx<3
tom and pete where trully amazing and we all know that. whatever happens the brithish public will be behind them both. tom is only 18 and has been through so much recently and i respect him so much for that. he’s a great diver and so is pete. the tweets were utterly disgusting and they have responded to them so well. i really dont know what kind of sick mind could ever do that to another human being
