Pet Shop Boys Call X Factor Music ‘Turgid’

The Pet Shop Boys have become the lastest band to hit out at ITV talent show, X Factor.

The group claimed that “X Factor music” is “ultimately turgid” and real pop songs would stand the test of time.

“Good pop music doesn’t really date. Look at Abba. Unfortunately they’ve become a kind of a cliché because of Mamma Mia! but ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ is an amazing record,” Neil Tennant told The Sun.

“The backing vocals are outstanding and the video is harrowing because their marriages are breaking up.”

This is two different topics one an appraisal of Mamma mia and the msuic of Abba and the second a very poor critique of the X factor by comparison to established music. I seriously doubt whether a 100th weight pop artist carries any weight in the real world of music. When was the pet shop boys last number one again? Can we remember it is more important?
