Press watchdog upholds Dannii Minogue complaint

The press watchdog has upheld two complaints from X Factor judge Dannii Minogue against the Daily Mirror and Daily Record after they revealed her pregnancy.

The X Factor judge complained that both newspapers revealed her pregnancy, before she had her 12 week scan to ensure the baby was alive and well.

The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) branded the articles a “regrettable lapse in editorial judgement”.

Both newspapers have claimed that they only ran with the story after Sydney Morning Herald website and a blog published the news the day before.

However, the PCC rejected insisted that the Sydney piece had been speculative and not confirmed as fact.

The press code regarding privacy concerning health matters states: “As a matter of common sense newspapers and magazines should not reveal news of an individual’s pregnancy without consent before the 12-week scan, unless the information is known to such an extent that it would be perverse not to refer to it.”

Good, It’s nice to see that peoples privacy is important. The majority of people do not announce their pregnancy until past the 12 week danger zone and after the scan to save media/public intrusion if sadly something was wrong. It is common decency to respect peoples wishes and if Danni had wanted the media to announce her pregnancy she would have given them the information herself. I hope the media learn from this but I doubt it.
Good Luck Danni hope you have an enjoyable pregnancy.
