Red Or Black Final: Harry Styles freezes when One Direction perform ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ (VIDEO)

One Direction were the special guests on tonight’s Red or Black episode and we could hardly hear Ant and Dec speak at some points, because of all the screaming teenage fans.

The X Factor stars had two roles on the ITV show. Firstly they entertained the crowd with a rendition of their debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful,’ which will be released tomorrow.

The boyband also took part in a special challenge, helping whittle the final four contestants on the show down to two. Harry Styles picked a fan from the audience and she was then asked to reveal if she was wearing a red or black t-shirt, which in turn determined which pair of hopefuls would make it to the final round.

Before taking to the stage, Ant and Dec played a little montage of the boys performing the song on the London tube, before they seemingly emerged at Wembley station and were chased up the road, by hoards of screaming fans, before arriving at Fountain TV studios.

Zain Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles then appeared before the audience and finished the track with some live vocals.

Poor Harry looked so nervous and seemed to lose his voice at the end of his little section which was a bit cringeworthy. We felt so sorry for the curly haired cutie, as he looked like he might even cry if the cameras didn’t pan to someone else.

Of course he’s going to be nervous, It was the first time they performed their debut single LIVE -they were absolutely amaazing.

  2. Rich says:

They didn’t perform it live though, about half of it was the stupid montage and not live. And the bit that was live was awful.

  3. Debs says:

Agree…they were dreadful. Shame as they’re really cute lads…felt very sorry for them

  4. Silvio says:

So, let me get this straight. They and the girls were on the train, but only when they got out, did the girls feel the need to go near them? And they run on the streets? And when they arrived on stage, the girls just jumped up and down?

Oh God… The director must be some kind of genius. All these innovations must be hard to think of.

    *facepalm*

I did enjoy it, they all look very handsome, Mr Styles especially ;)
However, poor Harry, you could see his hand shaken, and then he had a right carry on catching a ticket!
I’m sure on future performances it’ll be improved, nerves just got the better of them.
I hope the single does well though, very catchy!

One Direction did AMAZING! They sound amazing live. Harry did a wonderful job! These boys are amazing and they were one of the best live performances i have ever seen. Harry did NOT mess up the performance! All of them did soo well! Congrats to One Direction!

  8. random says:

Harry styles did fine great even… they are all very talented kids, so what nerve got to them, how about you try singing in front of a crowd like that! i actually found the performance to be quite good and eventhough harry may have had a rough start he still finished strong and his voice sounded great. So stop hatin and start appreciatin ;P

  9. Jo says:

They we’re running and jumping about on stage, name some artisits that do that and sound amazing live. I can name 2, Beyonce and gaga and that it is. One direction were awesome

  10. Danielle says:

I thought 1D were brilliant and amazing as always. I love them all so much, but especially harry!!! OMG poor babe he was soooo nervous. It did not spoil the performance tho one bit, I think it just made fans love him even more! It must just of been the nerves of a live tv performance on their first single (which is also amazing). Harry you have nothing to worry about you did us proud :-) ps thanks for the hug today in Manchester. You smelt gorgeous xxx

  11. Ryanna says:

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed.
Firstly, because they barely sang live at all (half of it was pre-recorded) and secondly the vocals weren’t as up-to-scratch as I would have normally expected. Hopefully it was just nerves on Harry’s part because he’s a great singer.
I still love One Direction, though!

  12. Fiyah says:

wth are you talking about – he didn’t mess up

  13. Bree says:

It’s sad because Harry really is a talented kid. I guess he just let his nerves get the best of him. I’m not sure if it’s true, but I heard that after the show, he started crying and refused to talk to anyone because he felt he messed up the performance. Poor Hazza :(

  14. 1Direction says:

actually they were pretty good. :) i love their voices. and harry did PRETTY WELL. i didnt see anything wrong :) those guys are amazing. #prouddirectioner.

  15. Suzanna says:

I quite like the song even though I never really liked them on X factor. This was mainly because Harry was so cocky and thought he was the star of the show!! While I feel a little sorry for him because of his seriously cringe worthy performance, I can’t help but think it will bring him down a peg or two and will do him some good. Plus they performed live every saturday night on X factor so I fail to see how this is any different…

  16. INeedDoctorDirection says:

You think it was nerves? It possibly could have been, but no one is taking into account that, even if the train scene WAS prerecorded, he just ran and jumped on stage. He’s an energetic*coughcoughANDSEXYcoughcough* guy, he’s most likely just trying to catch his breath. And he didn’t mess up anything. I thought they were as amazing as ever. And even the prerecorded scene made me smile because I am a TRUE 1Directioner!!!!!! (: Go Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayne, AND Louis! I love you guys!

  17. lisa says:

All those people having a go at one direction, can i just say STOP IT !! they were absolutly amazing !! you have to just think, they were running around the stage the whole time whilst singing, like to see you do that and sound perfect. i thought they were really good !!! LOVE YOU ONE DIRECTION !! especially HARRY !!! <3 xxxxxxxx

  18. anto says:

  19. Molly says:

I think they were all amazing and nervous, Harry was just out of breath as he had run onto the stage and had been jumping around, he was also nervous as i assume the rest of them were as well. It was only their first live performance of their debut single so i guess they did their best and in my opinion i think they did great, WELL DONE ONE DIRECTION! xxx

  20. Sara says:

So to all of you who are saying that the performance was awful.. think about this.. they ran… pretty far… pretty fast before they performed. Harry sounds really out of breath! I feel so bad that no one thought about that before they performed. Harry actually has an amazing voice; he sang acapella on X Factor, and the judges loved him! Trust me, he didn’t get worse. Plus, he’s only seventeen!

  21. MissLouisTomlinson says:

    Awww poor Harry.
    I still think they sounded
    amazing tho. :)
    Luv u Louis <3

  22. Bethany Dickinson says:

OMG iof course he’s goin to be nervous!!! A, he was singing a sole,B it was live and C he’s actually a genuine guy who has confidence issues. If you think he shouldn’t have been nervous you go up there on live television singing a solo OK!! P.S. Harry I believe in you and the rest of 1D!!! Thnz for reading!!

  23. Rasha says:

They were amazing! And so what Harry lost his voice at one part? Put yourself in his shoes, wouldn’t you be nervous as well? But people run their mouths without even thinking about what they’re saying. You don’t know how he was feeling during the performance or how he felt after the show it, and how he felt that he let everyone down. People always say the most dreadful things and they critique like they are all knowing, but in fact they don’t know anything. In addition, people don’t hate Harry; they hate the fact that they are not Harry. Harry is an amazing singer. I love One Direction.
