In an interview with the Daily Mail today Simon Cowell admitted that Louis Walsh and G4 were the true winners of last years X Factor show, and that they have sold many more records than Steve Brookstein even though they came second in the competition finals.

He has also implied that he may not renew Steve’s contract this year due to poor album sales that amounted to only 250,000. A poor result considering the publicity surrounding the X Factor 2004 winner. Simon stated that “All we can do on this show is give someone a huge push up the ladder. Without this competition there would have been no No 1 album. He would still be singing in wine bars……but I would be lying if I said that I went on to this show to sell 250,000 records.”

Steve will appear on our screens again in the new series of X factor beginning on Saturday, but after that I wouldn’t rely on seeing too much more of him!
