When news of Simon Cowell’s engagement to Mezghan ­Hussainy broke earlier this year, there were rumours of a shotgun wedding, that would take place this summer.

Cowell, 50 is thought to have proposed to American Idol makeup artist Mezghan on Valentines Day and after admitting that he was ‘smitten’ by her on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories show, many assumed that the music mogul had found the woman to tame his eternal bachelor tendancies. However, insiders now suggest that Mr C is suffering from cold feet syndrome and is refusing to set a date for the nuptials.

A friend of Cowell’s told The Mirror:

“He’s still getting used to living with Mezghan, let alone her being his wife.

“Bear in mind this is a man who’s used to doing his own thing. Simon’s a man’s man. He likes to dance to his own tune and isn’t used to ­making ­compromises, which ­marriage ­requires. Mezghan’s a great girl.

“But even those closest to Simon aren’t ­expecting to hear wedding bells any time soon.”

Simon’s friend and colleague Piers Morgan poured more fuel on the fire today, when he seemed to deny that Cowell had ever considered getting married at all. When quizzed on US news network CNN about Cowell’s upcoming nuptials, Piers, 45, said: “What wedding?” The confused reporter asked: “Isn’t he getting married?” And Piers replied: “Not as far as he’s said.”
