Simon Cowell is a sneaky so and so and it’s been reported that he’s already held secret meetings with Cheryl Cole about next year’s X Factor series.
The music mogul is doing everything in his power to pull the ITV show out of it’s ratings slump and while it is clearly too late for the current run, insiders say he thinks Cole could be just what’s needed to start things off on the right foot in 2013.
Auditions for the next series start in May next year and before the Girls Aloud star’s diary started filling up, it’s been claimed that Cowell summoned her to his American mansion and offered her ‘any price’ to return to the judging panel and save the X Factor.
The ‘Under The Sun’ hitmaker of course was the nation’s sweetheart when she appeared on the show up until 2011, when Cowell poached her for his US version before deciding that she wasn’t a good fit and sacking her. He replaced her then with Nicole Scherzinger but if he gets his way the two beauties could be working side by side in 2013, as insiders claim the TV boss wants to bin Tulisa and keep the former Pussycat Dolls star on the lineup.
A source told The Sun:
“He’s desperate to get Cheryl back on X Factor UK because it’s lost its way.”
“The money on the table would be a fortune — at least double what she got last time. She could have what she wanted.”
Max Clifford also leant weight to the rumours and the PR guru, who represents Cowell in the UK insisted that his client “thinks a lot of Cheryl”.
He added: “It was him that gave her the break on X Factor in England and America. He wants to rebuild the relationship.”
Simon is believed to be considering a part time return to the UK series himself, but he can’t be a permanent fixture due to his commitments on The X Factor USA. He apparently thinks that Cheryl is the next best thing and could keep things running in his absence and the source added:
“He doesn’t want to see X Factor going down the way it is and he thinks Cheryl is the next best thing to him.”
“Simon wants to get rid of Tulisa so this meeting will be part and parcel of that.”
Gary Barlow admitted yesterday that he may leave the show if Simon returns and revealed that the series had taken a lot out of him this year. He may not get an option for a comeback if reports are to be believed, as it seems that Cowell is blaming Gary for Christopher Maloney’s success this year.
The music mogul is worried that a win by the former cruise ship singer will dent the X Factor’s credibility for good and the source continued:
“Simon thinks he’s very nice but who has Gary ever made into a star? He didn’t want him in the last series but there was no one better and ITV backed Gary.”
