Simon Cowell’s engagement to 36 year old Mezhgan Hussainy has created quite a buzz worldwide and has been one of the most talked about celebrity news stories of 2010 so far.

Critics have claimed that this is exactly what the American Idol judge wanted and that the whole thing is one huge PR stunt, designed to help him launch his X Factor series in America.

A source told CNN:

“He knows that his own show has to be a success…it has to be bigger than even ‘Idol’ and with his magic touch on shows he is taking no chances.”

Some insiders have speculated that Cowell will marry his makeup artist fiancé this summer or early autumn, before the X Factor live shows start in the UK. However the more cynical insist that Cowell will hold off any nuptials until late 2011, so that it will coincide with his American X Factor launch.

An insider said, “[Cowell] is the king of spin and knows that a great love story will help sell the U.S. version of ['X Factor'].

The source added, “Expect no wedding this year at all – 2011 is the year of Simon in the U.S. and he will pull out all the stops needed to become an even bigger success.”
