When he was on This is your Life the children that came on thought he was wonderful because he spent a lot of time with them, treated them with respect. It was also reported a while back that every week at the X-Factor Shows he invites children with special needs. This is why I think it is such a shame that he doesn't want children because he is good with them, but I can understand that he feels that he would not be able to spend enough time with them because of work committments and again he is putting their needs before his own.
