Simon Cowell: ‘The X Factor has made music interesting again’

Simon Cowell has hit out at critics who claim that The X Factor has destroyed the music industry. In fact Simon Cowell says that he thinks the ITV show has ‘done a good job’ and ‘made music interesting again’.
“I don’t think shows like ours have saved the pop industry,” the music moghul told The Guardian, “but they have changed it, most certainly.
“They made music interesting again after Top of the Pops, and they also sent tons of people back into record shops, where they can doubtless buy records by other artists.”
Simon continued: “You know, I don’t get given handouts to do this, and I don’t force people to buy things. It just happens that The X Factor has done a good job.”

Music was reasonable until Cowell appeared.I mean who remembers “superstar” Brookstein?
Who?! Was he the first winner? – I’m not playing dumb I genuinely don’t know.
We have had nine years of reality style talent shows on a large scale.
They are such because they requirie the viewers to ring in and vote.
Music has not been reasonable for around 15 or 20 years with the arrival of hip hop, rap and dance mix.
The British music scene has fractured as no big names are developing from the numbers every year who have one or two hits and then fade into insignificance.
The internet is a good medium for wanabes to use as it is affordable. Should a wanabe get known via this medium it is only a matter of time before the money men from the industry come through to mussle in on the scene. Ie Lily Allan, Mika and Natasha Marsh to name a few.
The British music scene is still dependent on sales from the re-releases of standards ie country, folk, classic pop, classical music and dead artists estates.
The singles chart is a laugh today, it used to be an enviable goalpost for a wanabe as it meant your physical sales were high. For example in a given week it meant that if you sold 250. 000 you would definitely be in the number one spot. AS 250.000 people had gone out to the shop to get it. Nowadays with the exception of christmas the number one spot is decided by the number of downloads bought for several pence. Less monmey going into the music industry kitty means less money for investments into new up and coming artists.
This is why record company A and R men no longer hunt for the talented they wait for the talented to be brought to their attention ie via the internet and via via mp3 recordings, cd demos etc. They also take a keen interest in what the television reality shows produce as indeed as many rejects from such shows have had a modicum of success.
In 2003 the Music Industry was Britains 7th biggest earner its now the 13th.
The real winners here are the marketing and media concerns.
a whole nine years of watching deluded fakes with retardedly basic levels of talent make a career in just six weeks, whilst genuinley talented people struggle for years to no avail. the whole industry stinks worse than a tramp in the summer. Cowell obviously thinks he has helped music because it has paid him handsomely, i mean come on, they cant even be bothered to write their own songs anymore. if thats not laughing in your face then i dont know what is. If these disposable fuckers think their career will last longer than two years, then they are very wrong. They will be opening the new hatfeild branch of wilkinsons with an oversized pair of scissors in no time.
No change there then. The business behind the industry has always been questionable.
