Simon Cowell won’t give record deals to Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon or Danyl Johnson

Simon Cowell has passed on the chance to sign X Factor stars Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon and Danyl Johnson to his record label.

A source told The News Of The World: “Simon has decided he won’t have anything to do with them in a professional sense going forward.

“He doesn’t have anything against the guys but wants to concentrate on turning Joe McElderry into a star. They’ve got a contract with Butlins to perform at summer school holiday gigs. And they’re making £100,000 from The X Factor tour – but this is still a massive blow.”

Last night a spokeswoman for Cowell’s label Syco added: “We never guarantee contracts for anyone other than the X Factor winner and this year we’ve decided to focus on Joe.

“However, we understand there is interest in other finalists from many parts of the musical industry and we hope they all do very well.”

So will there be a new JLS in the bunch? After all Simon failed to sign them and their career flourished regardless. Leave your comments below.

  1. Emma says:

    that isnt fair!!!
all 3 of them deserve to have a record deal!!1
    x

  2. Jon says:

Good! They’ll be far better off without him.

His track record of handling contestants post-X Factor is appalling. He has zero interest in developing anyone as an artist, simply using his latest puppet to sell as many records and make as much money for him as possible before moving onto his next ‘project’. I’m certain that JLS would not be doing so well had they signed with him.

Good luck to Olly, Stacey and (even though he wasn’t my cup of tea on the show) Danyl – I hope that this time next year you are all big success stories!

  3. Zedy says:

I think Stacey is the only one of them that could do well, but only on a small scale. Olly might release an album but I think it would flop, and I don’t see the appeal in Danyl, I genuinely think he has a horrible voice.

  4. Danielle says:

Ummm JLS are still signed with Simons record label, but just not syco..the label they are signed with is still linked with Simon.

And anyway, Simon didnt sign Diana Vickers last year and look how well she has done with little voice and now she has an album coming out in april which im sure will do very well.

I personally think with the right material, both Stacey and Olly will do very well regardless of who theyre signed with.

  5. Mary says:

Simon promised to look after Olly – he said it on national TV. Lets see what he does for him. I know Olly has plenty of support and will get signed with someone. But If this is true I am very disappointed with Simon. But on the other hand Olly might do better with a different label who will look after him better and give him time to grow. Simon is only interested in a quick buck and throws the artist away after that.I am a big fan of Olly and hope he get the deal he deserves.

    • jan g says:

i saw Olly live today and is all i can say is WOW, he can sing he can dance and he is brilliant, he has personality , he has charm, he has all the right quality’s to make him a star,

  6. crushxx says:

i hope stacey does well….she deserves to get signed up by a record label….GO STACEY!

  7. say it like it is says:

that’s “thank goodness it wasn’t fixed that Danyl WON,” before the spelling police jump on me.

  8. Deane says:

Since the X Factor awards the WINNER of the competition a one million dollar record deal, I would never have expected Simon to give three more contestants record deals. That would mean one third of the final twelve would each receive a one million dollar record deal, and that is an absurd assumption.

The lucky twelve received a few months of priceless television exposure, the opportunity to meet established stars, and all the many perks of being an X Factor contestant including wardrobe. From that group eight are now about to embark on the X Factor Tour, which will provide them further preks and exposure and a reported 100,000 pay day. In todays world I think that is something one should be very thankful for.

The way I see it, they should be most grateful, and I sincerely hope all expressed their gratitude to Simon. He is responsible for giving them the opportunity of a lifetime.

Wishing the eight finalists a wonderful tour, and the best life has to offer!

  9. Mary says:

In reply to Deane – are you working for Simon?

Simon has made millions out of these act who put them self forward. So it works both ways – Simon should be grateful also. No contestants, no show for Simon.

  10. Marcella says:

Sad news to read. I’d love to hear a CD from Stacey in future. I agree the exposure was great for them & each has grown vocally & personally & are more Pro since their lst show. A good experience for them & a pleasure for their fans. Non- winners like Susan Boyle, Lucy, Diana, Holly Steele & JLS are all doing well with albums, etc. I think each will get a record deal -lots of other big fish in the sea besides Simon. Unfortunatley, what Simon says, Simon gets!

  11. KEVIN says:

Lets face it Simon is going to have to work bloody hard to make Joe into a star! Only one person that’s versatile and bucket’s of Star Qualitay and that’s our Stacey!
Just watch this girl go. If Cheryl Cole can make it then Stacey should have no probs? Hope she doesn’t have to marry an idiot footballer to do it thought!

  12. Deane says:

Joe has a fantastic voice, a great sense of humor, conducts himself beautifully in interviews, and is a genuinely nice person. He will be the easiest to make a star that Simon has worked with to date. Joe is willing to put in the hard work necessary to achieve his dream, and Simon really likes Joe, so this should be a wonderful ride to the top for them both.

Stacey also has a beautiful voice, and is such a sweet and gracious young lady. Olly is a good performer, and to me seems more suited for a live stage act. I don’t want to be critical of Danyl, so that is all I will say.

Now, to the topic of record deals. It is unrealistic to think HALF of the 8 touring acts of the X Factor should have been awarded one million dollar record deals. It is a competition that produces a winner and a winner’s prize. There are plenty of reasons to criticize Simon, but in my opinion it is just plain silly in this case. And by the way, I thought it was really amusing that I was asked if I worked for him!

  13. AnnaMVos says:

From the Netherlands: I loved Olly the best and wish him lots of luck. Please make a record. I’ll buy it! Anna

  14. Marcella says:

I agree with Kevin. Joe will take alot of work to become a real star. He has no personality or star quality like Stacey naturally achieved. She is everyones’ darling. She has the talent too!!

Joe will become a manufactured star (he’s a yes boy-easier to manage than a young mother or Susan Boyle) to please the teenies in US- cause he’s cute but will only do cover songs & G.Michael. That might last a few years then poof!
Whereas Stacey is versatile & creative. With proper management she will be outstanding. How can you forget the Pro Musicians’ comments & positive reaction about her. Well, I guess that’s the music biz. But she’ll get something if she persists with her dream :)

  15. Totemia says:

Interesting comments! All twelve acts did well and deserve our recognitions. The final four finalist did exceptionally well and deserve our continued support. Joe was voted the winner for the simple fact; he was the winner from mid-way through the competition. He progressed naturally from his audition through to the semi finals. He was the natural choice. I have every confidence, that Simon, will work with Joe to progress his music career in the right direction and to Joe’s benefit. No matter how powerful a person is, they remain accountable to others. Dean, I’m in total accord with your comments here. Very refreshing!

  16. jan g says:

i watched the final and the only pop star i saw “not west end musical star”was Olly murs.
this x factor was a total farce from start to finish. wont be watching this year Simon cowell is out of order for the way he treats his post x factor stars.
how can you make a pop star out of someone who isn’t a pop star but a west end musical star, no offence to Joe who was excellent but he is not pop star material .
the votes are rigged im sure. 5,ooo ppl complained in 2008 they couldnt get through to vote for laura, 10,000 complained they couldnt get through to vote for rhydian roberts, this year 3,000 complained they couldnt get through for lucy, the voteing system needs to change in fact scrap the show its run its course.

  17. John says:

Stacey gave a stunning performance all through the competition. Dare I say I thought she sang Rule The World better than Take That, or at least it was an excellent different version?

I really do hope Stacey gets a contract, she is a lovely honest singer and I for one would pay to see her sing and would buy her on CD/DVD or BluRay.

  18. Kiley says:

I agree with John & other Stacey fans. She was by far the best. Lucy had a lovely voice but limited & no real sense of her direction in music & sorry, but no star quality. Joe & Olly belong in Musicals. Saw Lucy’s modelling pics & there she shines!
Can’t wait to hear Stacey’s lst CD. I hope it has every song she sang on Xfactor plus new ones.

  19. Abbie says:

Who are the twins sighned with?

  20. crushxx says:

louis signed them i think. x

  21. xfactorxfactorxfactorx says:

i really hope stacey releases an album i would by that album the day it comes out.

  22. KEVIN says:

Stacey Solomon is clearly the only one with the talent and versatility to become an international star with a long-term future. Joe is great but belongs in shows like Joseph etc or would be great working with Disney. Ollie I think is great but a bit to blokie and Karaoke for my money.
Stacey can sing almost any style and is blessed with both an inner and outer beauty that just draws people in. She is so great and quirky and instils trust at the same time.
I can see in musicals, Lounge singing hosting stuff on the TV and selling millions of albums.
She has a lot to learn but look at how much she grew in just 10 weeks on the X Factor. Yes and she still went to walk off stage the wrong way! Just one small reason among many why we all LOVE HER.
For god sake, somebody give this girl a record deal so that we in our hundreds of thousands can get what we want. A STACEY SOLOMON ALBUM!

  23. Ruth says:

Joe – Boring, great voice, nothing unique
Olly – Has personality, good voice, nothing unique
Stacey – A complete dingbat, mediocre voice
    Danyl – Controversial, good voice
Lloyd – Bad voice, nothing unique
Twins – An insult to legitimate musical acts
    Jamie – Totally unique
Lucie – Decent voice, nothing unique

    • kevin says:

How can you class Jamie as unique?! Big hair do Big rock voice. The guy is good but there are a tousands just like him.
Stacey has a GREAT voice that is versatile and she can conjure up all mannor of differant look’s. I would agree with you about all the rest though.

  24. Bronte says:

I think Simon’s made a HUGE mistake not signing them!
He didn’t sign Diana Vickers, but she’s doing absolulty fantastic without him!
I bet the same will happen to Olly, Stacey & Danyl!

  25. jang says:

Is XFACTOR a fix ???? yes, i know a young girl who has just auditioned not in front of Simon lu Cheryl or Danny but in front of 2 snotty nosed judges man and woman who don’t look remotely interested in you , the auditions the supposed first auditions we are seeing on TV are the second auditions so the crap bad singers are being put through deliberately and good singers are being turned away. shocking a fix or what?.
