Superstar judge Mel C says that unlike X Factor, Superstar “offers contestants a career”

As fans of Superstar will know, Spice Girl Mel C was officially announced as a judge earlier this week, and she’s wasted no time in stirring things up by declaring that Superstar is superior to The X Factor because, “it offers contestants a career.”

Mel, who will play the role of Mary Magdalene in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s new production of musical Jesus Christ Superstar, told TV Biz, “What sets Andrew’s show apart from other casting shows like The X Factor, is that there’s a career at the end of it.

“In the music industry there’s a lot more luck involved, you can be hot one minute and dropped the next.”

The search for a singer to play the lead role in the musical goes to the live rounds this weekend, and Mel went on to reveal what she’s looking for in the remaining ten singers…

She said, “Jesus has to have an incredible voice, great acting ability and a lot of charisma.

“I’m glad it’s the British public’s job to cast him, not mine.”

She added, “I came into the TV show as a mentor and now I’ve ended up part of the production.

Jason [Donovan] encouraged me to talk to Andrew about playing Mary, but I didn’t have to sing for her – he trusted me that I can do it.

“I’ve got a lot to prove in rehearsals.”
