Robbie Williams has revealed that he may be interested in joining the X Factor judging panel this year.
The Take That star had been tipped to take a seat at the judges table for the new series of the ITV singing show, alongside his old pal and bandmate Gary Barlow. It’s no secret that Simon Cowell wanted Rob for the show when he left two years ago but back then the ‘Candy’ hitmaker didn’t think he could cope with the pressure.
It seems he may be changing his mind though, as during an interview on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, Williams admitted that talk of becoming a TV star like Gaz had certainly “perked his interest”.
However, X Factor bosses shouldn’t count their chickens just yet as Rob also admitted that his career isn’t top of his list of priorities this year. In fact he’s pretty caught up with the idea of expanding his little family.
He told Alan that he and wife Ayda are busy ‘practising’ for a brother or sister for their five month old baby Theodora and added:
“My little girl is wonderful. Little Teddy. We are going to do more of them because they are amazing.”
The singer has a huge home in LA, to which he regularly decamps to escape the worst of the British weather. Cowell might have an easier time persuading Robbie to join the US version of his show, because the rain, the cloud and the cold in London is starting to get him down.
He said: “It’s grim, especially in the last few weeks. My wife FaceTimed me… she was in a T-shirt on a beach in Malibu and I was in Belsize Park and I went, ‘I know where I’d rather be’.”
However, the main problem for Robbie is he does want to join the X Factor, is his massive tour which is scheduled to run from June to August of this year. It will throw a spanner in the works and make planning for auditions very difficult. However, it wouldn’t be impossible as producers managed to work the tryouts around Gary Barlow’s commitment to his Take That Progress: Live tour back in 2011.
A show source told The Sun:
“It could work but it’s a long-shot.”
The X Factor lineup most likely won’t be confirmed for weeks yet and as always, at this point of the year the rumours are rife and often contradictory. It has been reported on many occasions that Tulisa was axed but last night The Daily Mail claimed that she is still waiting for her fate to be decided.
They claimed that Nicole Scherzinger will most likely return but that one or two of the panel will not. This could be where Robbie steps in, but other names in the frame include Sharon Osbourne, Cheryl Cole and Mel B.
