It must be nice to be on top for a change and after a year of losing out to One Direction in just about every area, The Wanted have finally gained a small victory.
The British boyband have went head to head with the X Factor stars on many occasions but this week they at last managed to win in something, when they were named ‘Best Group’ at the Virgin media Awards.
Max George, Nathan Sykes, Tom Parker, Jay McGuiness and Siva Kaneswaran were nominated in the category, against Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles and the results were determined by viewer votes.
It was a very close run battle but on this occasion it seems The Wanted’s fans were a little more active, as they beat 1D to the title by a tiny 0.08%.
It just goes to show how tight the competition is between the bands and their fandoms as over a million people voted before the awards were announced.
The result wasn’t the only shock of the evening either, as hit BBC dramas Doctor Who and Sherlock lost out in the best TV show category, and Dynamo’s magic series took the title instead.
Justin Bieber also beat 1D in the category of ‘Best Album’ and he lifted the gong for his record, as well as the trophy for “Best Solo Artist”.
We don’t know Directioners, were you not voting in this one because as you can see from the list below, our boys didn’t pick up one award.
We’re very very sad about this. Someone pass the chocolate!
