Tulisa Contostavlos seems pretty desperate to return to the X Factor this year.
The N-Dubz star probably needs the show more than any of the other judges, after all her solo album more or less flopped last year, as did her last single and with the other members of her former band still working on solo projects, it sounds like she won’t have very much to do if Simon Cowell doesn’t ask her to return to the ITV series.
Tulisa has served on the show’s judging panel for two years and hopes to come back for a third when the judges auditions kick off in May. However, it’s been claimed that the music mogul is planning to replace her with a big named star or a former judge, after ratings for the singing competition fell drastically during the 2012 run.
Insiders say he wants to replace one of the female judges, but is inclined to have Nicole Scherzinger back, after she got all three acts as far as the semi finals last year and two – James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas – to the final.
Speaking to the Daily Star this week Tulisa admitted that she really wants to join Nicole at the tryouts and said:
“I always like to be back because I love the show.”
However she admitted that she hasn’t heard from Si Co yet and continued:
“Nobody knows within the X Factor scene which judges are going to be on the panel each year until two months before the show starts.”
Tulisa thinks the press are overstating the ratings drop and insists that the X Factor will continue to thrive on ITV. She praised the format and it’s fans saying:
“I think X Factor fans are the most loyal fans in the UK – they’ll always stick by the show.
“I think we’ve done everything we could possibly do.”
It sounds like she’s trying to impress someone with all that gushing doesn’t it?
Cowell recently confirmed that he hasn’t fully decided on his staffing for 2013 just yet but revealed that he would be firming his lineup up within the next few weeks.
He said: “No-one’s contracts have been picked up. There are a series of meetings taking place in a couple of weeks’ time.
“All the Brits are coming in, all the Americans and we’re going to make some decisions then. We’re going to mix it up.”
Bookies think viewers could see Simon himself back on the show, with former judge Sharon Osbourne.
“The X Factor viewing figures have been going in the wrong direction ever since Simon & Sharon left. Their return could be just the tonic the franchise needs,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
