Tulisa Contostavlos has tried to explain the X Factor’s falling ratings by claiming that all it’s viewers are now out partying on a Saturday night.
In this time of recession, when pubs are closing every week up and down the UK due to lack of profit and falling numbers, the N-Dubz star thinks that the reason the ITV series is shedding viewers is because all the fans are out clubbing each and every weekend.
This year’s series of the X Factor has been the least watched in six years and is on average two million down on last year, which was already considered to be a poorly performing season.
Tulisa has been trying to save face and she doesn’t think it’s anything to do with the new judges, the contestants, the format or even Christopher Maloney. She insisted:
“The X Factor viewers might be clubbing on a Saturday night.”
“If I was to go raving to every city in England, everyone I meet would be like, ‘Yeah, I watch The X Factor tomorrow morning with a hangover’.”
Show bosses had been hoping that last week’s semi final would boost ratings a bit, as viewers tuned in to see which three acts would win a place in the grand finale.
However, only 7.75 million people tuned in to see Union J being eliminated and Christopher Maloney, James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas advancing to the final round. That figure was 2.5 million on 2011 and more than 5 million lower than the 2010 series, which featured judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and contestants Matt Cardle, One Direction and Cher Lloyd.
Like the rest of us Tulisa has conceded that the show would probably be better with Simon back at the helm but she knows it will be difficult to pull off.
He has commitments on The X Factor USA and Tulisa praised the music mogul saying:
“If we could split Simon into many people, we’d have him on every single X Factor. There’s only one of him. He has commitments. He’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.”
She told Metro:
“I see Simon as the man that sparked a big change in my life and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for him and his belief in me and my decisions.”
It’s not like Contostavlos to be so nice. It sounds like she’s trying to butter Simon up, after reports that he’s planning to drop her before the series returns in 2013.
Tulisa goes into this week’s final with no acts to mentor but she’s revealed that she wants James Arthur to win.
