Watch Whitney Houston perform Million Dollar Bill on Italian X Factor
So I am watching the above performance that Whitney Houston gave on the Italian Version of X Factor this week and comparing it to her UK comeback last Sunday. She was definitely dressed more sensibly, the fitted white dress provided less opportunities for strap breaking and tripping style accidents for sure. It also looked more fashionable and current, a big tick for Whitney’s stylist.
The vocal performance wasn’t as strong though. It was all very panty and breathy and one could be forgiven for thinking she had just left her step aerobics class before she started. She coasted a lot over the backing singers, some lines she missed completely or just managed a word or two between warbles.
Thankfully, Whitney has a limited Italian vocabulary, only managing a quick ‘Grazie’ here and there after she sang. She made quite the fool of herself on the UK X Factor, when she babbled to Dermot O’Leary, refusing to meet his eye and appearing to all as very much ‘out of it.’ Her management had obviously ensured that interview opportunities on the Italian show were kept to a minimum. Other than ‘Grazie’ all she did was tell the audience when her Milan concert would be. Unfortunately she wasn’t actually sure if it was in April, or May.

Ms. McGarry, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but did you actually watch the video? While I was satisfied with Ms. Houston’s performance in the UK, her Italian performance was far superior. Nowhere in this video does she sound out of breath. Contrast that with the few times on the UK version where she noticeably was.
On X Factor Italy, she definitely did NOT coast over the backing singers, but sang along more in the chorus than she did on UK X Factor. She didn’t “miss lines” but vocally improvised over the backing singers. It’s one of the things Ms. Houston is known for, and something that sets her apart from, say, Cheryl Cole.
It seems like you just wanted to be snarky, let the facts be damned. You are entitled to your opinion, however one shouldn’t distort facts in service to one’s ill-formed opinion.
I think you were watching a different performance than everyone else. Whitney’s vocals here were far and away better than any of her performances thus far. She delivered the song confidently with great tone and energy.
I’m not sure the person what wrote this watched the Italy performance…she NAILED the performance in Italy.
No offence but I think a jealous drag queen wrote this!! Sorry.
you are stupid!!! WHITNEY SOUNDED 100X BETTER THEN SHE DID IN THE UK. IT’S OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE FEW WHO NO MATTER WHAT WILL TRY TO FIND THE NEGATIVES. UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU THE PERFORMANCE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. THIS IS THE WHITNEY WE REMEMBER. THE UK SHOW WAS NOT AS MUCH AS A MESS A THE GMA , BUT IS WAS NOWHERE NEAR ON PAR WITH THE ITALY X FACTOR. SHE WAS ON POINT. SO IF YOU MUST DO A REVIEW MAKE SURE YOU DON’T SAY SHE WAS HOARSE OR SOUNDED BAD WHEN ALL POEPLE HAVE TO DO IS LISTEN. GET REAL
I think the writer of this “article”, has let his true feelings in the way and is biased against Whitney Houston.
Whitney was flawless in that performance. Absolutely amazing. Everyone is complaining about her voice not being the same as before, but NO ONE is able to surpass even her vocals now. Get a life. Whitney is the Best vocalist in the world TODAY. Period.
I want to concur with everyone else. Whitney’s vocals in Italy were far superior then the UK version. She sang more lines to this song, then any performance of it yet, thus far since it’s release. Her tone was stable and improving, far from the “Old Whitney” that people have a hard time letting go of, but nevertheless, better then any improvised studio enhanced lip-sync performance of most other current artists today. Whitney is still #1 to me.
the performance in italy was so much better then the uk – she sung well and seemed more relaxed and in control. as for who wrote this review you’ve either not watched it or just a ‘hater’ by writing that crap – will think twice about logging onto this site ……….
p.s. why has one of her best performances so far been deleted from utube etc
What a pathetic and totally inaccurate write up of Whitney’s Italian X-Factor performance. I thought it was unbelievably superior to her UK X-Factor turn and couldn’t get over how fantastic she looked, sounded and acted. To say that she coasted over the backing singers is a complete and utter falsehood. She improvised! Look at any live performance of Whitney’s since 1985 and you’ll see she’s earned a solid reputation for improvising and always making the song sound different and you would know that Lisa McGarry if, like a proper music reviewer, you had done your research and kept your obvious personal disdain for Whitney out of the picture. Whitney is still the world’s no.1 singer.
She was amazing and looked fabulous
and she deserves to be number one,
Her voice is better than many singers out today.
Dear writer! You need to get your ears cleaned and your eyes checked. Both her performances were good and the italian one was by far an excellent performance. Everyone agrees here!
She looked wonderful, has amazing stage prescence and is a very unique performer.
Dear so-called writer, put a sock in it! What on earth is your problem with Whitney? This review is filled with petty, snide remarks and half-truths. Ms Houston gave the performance of her life on the Italian X Factor particularly on a vocal level. Whitney set the standard for all contemporary singers today from Celine Dion to Christina Aguilera and she proved with this performance why she’s still the greatest! I won’t rush to read another of your reviews in the future.
[...] Factor judge Dannii Minogue has admitted that she was disappointed by Whitney Houston’s comeback performance, on the show last [...]
When it comes to “Talent”, Danni Minogue is NOTHING! Danni’s so called ‘music career’ was based on ‘Autotune’ and ‘Studio Trickery’. I saw Danni Minogue perform at G-A-Y once and witnessed her lip-synch her way through an entire song set, it was embarrassing! So she’s barely qualified to comment on Whitney Houston who for her entire career has been universally hailed as the world’s greatest vocalist!
she asctually nailed that performance. she was great, thats the whitney we knew back when.
Oh my Lord, what a rubbish review, I’m one of the lucky fans that saw the Italian performance live and Whitney was on top form! She’s the greatest voice of all and everyone in Italy is so proud of her that’s the reason why her Album went to number one! Don’t write stuff just cos Dannii Minogue says so1 Dannii is one talentless girl who’ll forever be lip synching like Cheryl did! Even on Whitney’s worst day she’s 100times better than Dannii. Whitney sung live and was on fire, quit hating!
