Westlife Use X Factor To Launch New Album
Westlife are hoping that a TV programme showcasing their new album and single, scheduled to air right before the X factor Saturday night show will help boost their newest record.
The boys haven’t had a chart hit in almost a year and the first airing of their new single ‘Home’ was as backing music to an X Factor audition show. They are hoping that their upcoming Saturday night show will be watched by millions of X Factor fans that will help push them up the charts.
A source said: “It will be a Saturday night type of show so it’d be great to run it before the semi-final or final of X Factor as the ratings have been so good.”
This strikes me as a great example of the fact that it’s not what you know (or how well you can sing!) but who you know in the music business. The boys are managed by X Factor judge, Louis Walsh, they are signed by Simon Cowell’s record label, so of course they get preferential spots on the programming schedule. In fact the last time I saw Westlife perform was on last years X Factor final.
Personally, I think if the boys can’t sell records on their own, then they should give up gracefully and retire for about ten years before attempting a cheesy reunion!
