I watched the ITV2 show What Tabby Did Next, which was billed as an “action-packed special filmed over six months, following Irish singer-songwriter Tabby [Callaghan].”

What followed was pretty damned poor. Tabby wasn’t entirely comfortable with the documentary team and seemed awkward, particularly where he was talking directly to the camera.

I did however like the bit in the studio with Mark Hudson. I’d seen Mark with Sharon on X-Factor 2004, and a little bit on the Osbournes and had him figured for a bit of a hippy with the coloured beard. But boy, was he harsh!

Tabby’s a great guitar player, and has an energetic stage presence. But what passes on-stage doesn’t work in the studio, and he took quite a slating from Hudson over his playing (or over-playing) style!

All the same, I’m looking forward to Tabby’s upcoming single – it’ll be nice to hear some of his own songs for a change!
