Whitney Houston to judge on X Factor USA 2012? Seriously?
Whitney Houston has reportedly been asked to judge on the new series of The X Factor USA, when it returns later this year.
The ‘I Will Always Love You’ hitmaker is said to have been approached by Simon Cowell and Fox bosses, about the music mogul himself and record label boss L.A. Reid, on the judging panel.
The Hollywood Reporter claim that the legendary singer will be asked to join the lineup as a full time judge, after the axing of both female panelists Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger earlier this month.
Simon Cowell has revealed that while he would love Mariah Carey for the show, he know she is unlikely to commit to it’s grueling schedule and he rubbished rumours that he had offered Beyonce $100 million to sign up for three years. However, as Whitney Houston did once appear on the British version of the talent show, it seems likely that she may considering joining, if not as a full time judge, then perhaps for another short term appearance.
What puts more weight behind the rumours, is the fact that Houston is reportedly facing massive financial problems and may currently be on the brink of bankruptcy and in desperation to make herself and her estate more solvent.
Whitney appeared during ‘Diva Week’ on The X Factor UK back in 2009, when she conducted masterclasses with all the contestants, alongside her music mogul Clive Davis.
She appeared slightly eccentric and highly strung at times and it was almost as if Clive was there to make sure she stayed in line. The superstar later followed the class up, with a live performance of her hit song ‘Million Dollar Bill’ during which she literally sang herself right out of her clothes, as her dress strap snapped midway through the number.
Houston is also said to be planning her big screen comeback, and in September 2011, it was announced that the singer will produce and star (alongside Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps) in the remake of the 1976 film Sparkle. It was also reported that Houston will play Sparks’s “not-so encouraging mother” in the film. It marks Whitney Houston’s first feature film role since The Preacher’s Wife in 1996.
