X Factor 2006: First Night, Part Six!

4Sure - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted?

4Sure: X Factor Contestants

Possibly my least favourite group this series, we’ve seen acts like 4Sure before. Chris as the lead vocalist was unremarkable, even for such a safe song. They pulled a nice little a capella bit in the middle which I liked, but on the whole the song was bland. Having said that, they looked like they were enjoying themselves!

Louis said “it was very smooth, it was slick” while Sharon commented that “it’s nice to see a vocal group that do dancing that’s not over the top”. Simon noted ‘tuning issues’ but said that he liked the group: “you made an attempt to entertain the audience…I think you’ve got potential.”

My verdict: The odds are against any act stuck with Louis Walsh as a mentor. They’ll need to find their niche quickly, even though they’ve got the talent.

Leona Lewis - I’ll Be There

Leona Lewis: X Factor ContestantLeona got a fantastic makeover by the stylists, didn’t she? When she took the stage this evening, I thought I was watching a slim Beyonce Knowles! Tonight was the first night that I’d paid much attention to Leona. Her voice was clear as a bell, although lacked volume in places. And to her credit, she didn’t take the Mariah Carey route of jamming in as many notes into a line as possible!

Louis described Leona as “a class act”. Sharon complimented her on her “amazing vocal range” but cautioned her on trying to look too old. Mr Cowell waved away the other comments and described Leona as a unique talent in this country. (Cue inter-judge argument!)

My verdict: Good singer, good performer, good looking girl! Another artist who could really develop over the course of the competition.
