X Factor 2008: Phil Blackwell Holds The Longest Note

44 year old Phil Blackwell from Launceston makes quite an impression on tomorrow night’s X Factor show as he manages to annoy both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole in one breath.

After Dermot gives him some words of encouragement, Phil strides into the audition room and tells Cheryl that he hopes to achieve “multi platinum selling albums all over the world”. Phil chooses to sing Gold by Spandau Ballet and stuns the judges by finishing the song on the longest note ever…

Louis: “it was good, the last note!”

Simon: “You want every song to end like that?”

Louis: “Simon, it was different”

Phil: “Get me through and I’ll make sure they’re longer”

Simon: “That’s impossible; you can’t make them longer than that”.

Phil goes prove Simon wrong by singing Elton John’s Your Song. The Judges break into laughter when Simon tells Phil “It wasn’t as long and you can’t end every song with these crazy end notes, it’s ludicrous!”

Simon is exasperated when Louis gives Phil a yes and storms off the set with Cheryl in tow. Louis admits to Phil that there’s nothing he can do. Will Cheryl and Simon return to give Phil good news or has his long note blown his chances?

What was he on, the long note did not even go with the song.
