X Factor 2009, Week 5 Results Show
Highlights of last night? Lucie Jones overtaking Stacey Solomon as best female, and Jedward’s Ghostbusters malarky. Other than that, a fairly nondescript evening of nondescript songs.
Tonight is going to provide true star quality though, as Leona Lewis (hot new video just out!) and the Black Eyed Peas (hot new video just out!) are due to entertain us. Expect Leona to be wearing a big frock, and Fergie to be wearing exactly the opposite!
Here we go, blogging live for your pleasure…
The ensemble number tonight is Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold sung in the style of the end song in your school play. These things are cheesy, but such good fun! And I can’t believe Jamie Afro managed to say ‘bitch’ on Sunday night TV! Luverly!
Next up – the obligatory montage of last night’s show, with extra backstage footage. I think everybody loved seeing Cheryl and Louis bitching at each other in the corridor! But here comes the hotness…
Black Eyed Peas
Possibly my favourite pop act of the last 5 years, Black Eyed Peas tick just about every box for me – sexy, musically inventive, sexy, fun, sexy and funky. Fergie gets lowered onto the stage on a giant moon, and they launch into Meet Me Halfway. Did I mention I love Fergie? She looks kind of demure in that full length dress (does that mean that Leona will be performing in bra and hotpants? Fingers crossed
) Will.I.Am flies past on wires, a move I’d been hoping to see from Bon Jovi last week!
Third single from their The E.N.D album, and showing no signs of becoming boring or stale. BEP rock! In the absence of a mentoring session, that performance should have taught our erstwhile wannabes a thing or two.
Fergie exclusively reveals that she had a wardrobe malfunction and had to borrow Cheryl Cole’s shoes. Foot fetishists across the country break into goofy grins!
Predictions
The female judges refuse to say who they think will be in the bottom two tonight. But Louis and Simon have no such honour – they both point the finger at Lloyd Daniels. So, we’re in agreement then. Now…
The goregeous Leona Lewis
Yes, she’s wearing the obligatory elaborate frock. Technically she’s wearing two elaborate frocks – one on stage and another in the dreamy video footage behind her. I’m not a fan of this Ryan Tedder number, but she looks gorgeous in the video – go and check it out. But on stage here, she’s brought the effortless vocals we’ve come to expect. Eye makeup begs some comment – she looks a little crazed.
For me, this is a fitting reminder of how good X Factor can be. I’m just not seeing anyone as good as Leona this year. She’s got a new album coming out at the moment (Echoes). I’ve heard a little bit of it, and it’s every bit as good as her debut. Go Leona!
Elimination Time!
Rar! The contestants and judges take to the stage for elimination. Joe is the first act returning next week. Olly is next. The third act returning is Stacey Solomon. Then @!!#@??? Lloyd is back again! Damnit! Danyl is safe for another week as well. Who’s the final safe act? Jamie Archer!
So unfair! Lucie Jones is in the sing-off, despite being universally praised for her performance last night. She’s up against John and Edward, which might actually force Simon and Louis to be real about the Irish Horrors. This is going to be uncomfortable, and both acts first time in the bottom two.
The Sing-off
Lucie is up first, and Dannii gives a touching endorsement of her artist, thanking everybody who’s supported her so far. Lucie gets a reassuring round of applause from the audience as she starts singing (One Moment In Time). I’m noticing she’s barefoot on the stage. Though she starts out a little weak, she regains beautifully and hits the big notes like a pro. She’s really starting to come into her own, it would be so unfair to vote her off tonight!
Next up, the Jedward, announced to some ugly booing from the X Factor audience. Damn. They’re singing Rock DJ in their Ghostbusters costumes! Louis is grinning like a fool at his uncoordinated, tuneless duo. Cheryl’s laughing – not sure if it’s at the twins’ antics on stage or that Louis might lose them!
Now…decisions, decisions. Let me remind the judges that this (apparently) is a singing competition…
Louis (should do the brave thing and vote to eliminate the twins) votes to eliminate Lucie. Dannii naturally chooses to eliminate the twins. Cheryl gives the boot to Jedward. Simon. Will he man up and boot out Jedward? Simon opts to be a complete arse about Lucie, saying he’d rather see the twins again. Then he wusses out and sends it to the public vote. Really, Simon, that was spineless and low. Lucie is in tears.
Lucie is eliminated
The atmosphere is really ugly in the studio as the crowd roundly boo either Spineless Simon or John and Edward, we’re not sure which. Dannii makes a very pointed comment about wishing all the good singers luck in this competition.
What gets me is that Simon could’ve avoided this. He went on Xtra Factor last night and denied that he’d set up the whole John and Edward thing. Then he shafts Lucie by sending the vote to deadlock? He could’ve saved her. There’s no point in having the judges having a vote at the end and not using it.
We’re watching Xtra Factor now, and even Jedward seem upset that Lucie got eliminated. Holly Willoughby asks Dermot if it’s a cop-out going to deadlock, and the audience interrupt to answer “yes”. Someone makes the key point: do the judges even know what the show’s about anymore? Simon gets some very harsh words from the callers on the Xtra Factor panel. But he seems completely fine with the fact that the public failed to vote for Lucie and put her in that position in the first place.
Simon had two potential problems though: if he’d taken out Jedward, Louis would have no acts left, and if Lucie had progressed to the later stages, she might have been competition for one of Simon’s acts. My feeling is that he made a tactical decision, but he’s the person we expect to be straight with the public and the contestants. He should’ve used his vote to save Lucie, but just didn’t.
John and Edward should walk
This is my personal opinion, but I think that John and Edward should quit X Factor now. Whatever their own ambitions, they are not singers, and they’re skewing this contest for the talented people.
I accept that the judges placed them in the final 12, but they’re weakening the position of the real talent. Also, they’re being exploited themselves. With the exception of the mentally deranged Jedward fans, nobody normal can see a musical career for the twins. Seriously, they’ve had the exposure they need for a career as a comedy duo, they should do the dignified thing and walk away.
That’s all I have to say tonight.

I am hoping it gets sent to deadlock. It would only be fitting for Jedward to stand or fall by the public vote.
I disagree with Wrench. John & Edward should stay in only if their final performance is going to be better than Lucie’s. (which I highly doubt)
The Jedward train rolls on for another week. Feel free to flame me.
I can’t believe John and Edward are still there and yet another talented contestant has been sent home. I don’t think I can actually watch this anymore.
I am following the show over here in the U.S. and after tonight I have lost interest.
What is with the public over there? How can they feel OK about what happened
tonight? Admittedly SImon could have avoided it and he is an ass for not having
done that but still…what the heck are people voting for? Anyway, that’s it for
me since the results really don’t reflect anything real.
What is Simon Cowell playing at keeping John and Edward and eliminating Lucie, what a bloody shambles. Simon I say you should leave the UK on the first jet tonight. I have read it is a fix and now I believe this. Jedward should have gone, you should never have took it to deadlock. People need to now stop watching X factor, it’s all about Simon Cowell and not the contestants.
Im follow this show from the beginning in Holland. Its so unfair that Simon didn’t send Jedward home. Now I hope that next week one of his acts has to battle Jedward and Dannii can put it on a public vote!
I agree with you. It’ll actually be pretty amusing if one of his acts were to get into the bottom 2 next week with John & Edward. That might give him a taste of his own medicine.
Whatever, I hope that someone worthy of the title will ultimately win this show. That’s all.
Simon Cowell has always said John & Edward were rubbish so why tonight did he get rid of a brilliant singer like Lucie Jones. Think his brain is addled
what a plonker mr cowell you go for weeks saying why are the public voting for those twins, and then when you have the chance to get rid you dont,if it was one of your boys up against them they they would be long gone. i for one will never watch the show again as i was to understand it was a talent show.but you are the biggest hypocrite i have listened to
what a balless hipocrit simon cowel is, i think he put the final nail in the coffin for x factor. he proved it is definately a fix, he twitters on for weeks about it being a tallent show for singers and the twins have no place in the show, and then denies one of the best singers to go to the next round in case it knocks one of his acts out later, wow! what a fix,
GOOD BYE X FACTOR i will not watch it again.
i hope we get a million people who feel the same TO SHOW HE IS NOT A GOD.
Wonderfully written Gerard. It is unbelievable. What a lovely clear voice that girl has and those two idiots are left in because Simon, who I previously had tremendous admiration for, did not want to loose. He voted her out as she is competition for his acts, big competition. As for Stacey, she may beable to sing but a few horsey guffaws everytime she speaks will soon wear thin on a crowd.
I am disgusted with Simon Cowell, until this week I respected his opinion because he normally just came out and said what was the truth. What he did tonight was a downright lie and I believe he is protecting his acts. Lucie is a star with a beautiful voice. I think we should now all vote for Jedward, make sure they win and make a complete joke of the so called singing competition. I think that Jedward has the X-Factor and they entertaining but Lucie is an exceptional singer, what was done to her should be a crime, to take a young and talented girl with a beautiful voice and hang her out to dry the way Simon did is disgusting.
Last night made a complete mockery of the “X factor”. Does anyone believe that John and Edward have this? Simon only voted Lucy off to save his own acts (does not show much confidence in their true ability). He was a total coward and should be ashamed of himself. Even Louis should have had the guts to admit his own act was the weakest and should have saved Lucy. I for one will never watch this programme again and I hope many people have the courage to do likewise. This has destroyed what was once a good idea. Does Simon think that the British public are stupid and without intelligence. It is not possible for Lucy to have had the least votes, therefore this is fixed. If there was an opinion poll I am sure Simon would be at the bottom. Even lower than Gordon Brown. Shame on you all.
Just maybe Simon Cowell the public didn’t vote for Lucie because they thought she was safe….. that was your argument for Danyl the other week – you hypocrite.
I think the results from last night were an absolute travesty. Even when Louis voted to save his act he did say that it was only because he needed to be loyal to his act that she was his vote to go home.
I believe that Simon knew who were in the final 2 and who had more votes out of Lucie and John & Edward.
He went to the public vote for 3 main reasons:
1 – He could claim that it was not him who kicked Lucie out, it was the British Public
2 – Publicity. He will have column yards and yards (not just inches) about this. He will therefore have so much publicity that he is expecting even more people to watch each week.
3 – Money. By loosing Lucie, he is in effect saying people did not vote enough for her, therefore to ensure your favorite act stays in the competition you need to vote more. Therefore more money to him.
The show is supposed to be all about the vocals, and this result was blatently not about them. I also believe that the twins were genuinely shocked to hear that they had been saved, and also guilty that Lucie was going.
There are two things I would like to see:
1 – When the judges go on stage in the live show, all are cheered, except for Simon. I would like there to be silence for him, we will get off on any attention otherwise. This to contine through out the show whenever he is on screen/ making comments.
2 – Unfortunately for his acts, I would like no-one to vote for them and leave them in the bottom 2 until they all go. Let him have no winners this year to teach him some humility.
I’ve never made a point of watching X factor in previous years. I’ve usually ended up watching the occasional episode, due to the family having it on, but this year I made a point of “being sociable” and sitting down on a Saturday and Sunday night to watch it all.
Never again……!!!!!
What a joke this show is.
Senior Cowell is a hypocritical coward. He goes on week after week about how bad these boys are, and moaning about the public, then in 2 weeks he single handedly refuses the chance to save Rachel (who was brilliant), but then even more insanely, saves the jokers he’s been moaning about since the start and kicks Lucy out.
The show has lost all credibility as far as i’m concerned, and I REALLY hope J&E go on to win it. That would serve him right.
What people don’t seem to have cottoned on to is the fact that John & Edward were the 2nd least popular act this week, according to the great voting british public! This despite the massive publicity they received in every media all week, thanks to Simon Cowell’s production company Syco TV’s amazing PR spin machine. So it’s possibly just a matter of time (a week!) before they’re gone anyway.
okay all the people who said that Jedward should walk should be ashamed of them selfs. This is Jedwards dream and the horrible Brittish audience who boo them have forgotten that there 18. I bet if Lloyd or Daniel was against Lucy it would be all aw pur them and if it is Jedward to viously boo them. And all you people who said “duh, im not watching the show no more ” oh stop being so dramatic and get a life. Remember its not Jedwards fault they stayed. Lucy was one of my favs and i think its only fair 4 the person with the least votes to leave.
okay its kevin again i read some more comments above and not one is good.
STOP SAYING JEDWARD SHOULD WALK!!!! its vile that you should say this. I am sad lucy left but to be fair if she got the least votes she couldn’t have won anyway! And Rachael even though shes good couldn’t win(Hello bottom 2 3times)
so even if it was fixed and she won no one would buy her cd. I am furious what the British are saying about Jedward how can they be so heartless(except the Spice Girls, Jedward supporters, Holly Willoughby and Cheryl Cole your all cool) But seriously people who boo Jedward are viosious foul disgusting people and should all be ashamed! i think you people should stop calling it Great Britain as they are horrible in the eyes of Great Ireland.
Kevin its nothing to do with where John and Edward live they can’t sing that is why the audience booed. They would have had the same reaction if they came from Margate or Maidenhead. You should be aiming your wrath at the people that put them in this predicament and that of course is the programme makers. Surely you can see that its all a publicity act. The voting public seem to think they are supporting their local football team and not voting for the best singer. If you live in a highly populated area you will receive more votes. Having said that, it’s questionable that the voting is genuine T.V. companies have been known to cheat. Simon Coward is working the media overtime to attract more attention to himself and the X factor and to make more money. Never mind the 18yrs old girl who’s dream was shattered. DO NOT VOTE or watch the programme would be the best thing to do I certainly won’t be.
I’d go with Jedward if I could have voted between Lucie and Jedward. But that’s the trouble. The audience votes on Saturday.
Many vote for their most favourite act, or the act in danger to be sent home; like Lloyd. That’s why nobody voted for Lucie in the middle, and do we see every week this unpredictable outcomes.
There should be a Sunday vote. Re-open the phone lines after the bottom two have sung their survival song.
What’s the point of having a sing off if the judges are not making decisions. They might as well just announce the act with the lowest vote. Simon Cowell’s decision is entirely based on selfishness and greed. He has no interest in developing talent. Only cashing in. I believed that Lucy had a chance to win the X factor. Can’t believe Simon did not support her, especially when he said she gave a great performance. The show is prolly fix. Though J&E will not win Xfactor but they will remain there for quite some time. I have lost faith in this program. Everyone should boycott and quit voting.
