X Factor 2010: Belle Amie sing ‘I’ll Stand By You’ (VIDEO)

X Factor finalists Belle Amie finally got their way this week. Simon Cowell reportedly wanted the girl group to sing ‘Footloose’ for the Guilty Pleasures themed show, but after being in the bottom two last week, the singers were keen to do a song which would showcase their vocals more prominently.

BA instead took on ‘I’ll Stand By You’ by The Pretenders and more notably Cheryl Cole’s group Girls Aloud. They started all sitting on a bench on stage and then of course, during the chorus did a synchronised stand move. It was nice to hear their individual voices for a change and nice to hear them put their stamp on a song but in all honesty, it was a bit boring. The harmonies worked well but these girls should never have been out in a group. It’s not what any of them really want and it definitely shines through.

JUDGES COMMENTS

SIMON COWELL: Louis why do you have to be so nasty, unpleasant and bitchy. The girls wanted to make their own sing decision, they are not puppets. In fact John should have done exactly what the girls did. Girls, it wasn’t the most original version in the world but the important thing was it showed that you’re a group, that you can make your own decisions, that you’re good singers and I think you did great.

DANNII MINOGUE: Girls the styling has improved, I don’t think you’;re quite there but it’s improved a lot. I think that the song choice wasn”t surprising, it didn”t have that wow factor in it but it was good. It’s a tough night tonight because I think a lot of songs could have got very cheesy but it’s been a really high standard and that’s why you’re finding it difficult.

LOUIS WALSH: Well I think you are potentially a really great girl band but you’ve got a problem, you’re on your own in this competition. Simon is putting all his energies into boyband One Direction and it’s not fair. It’s not fair and that’s why you picked that song. It wasn’t a great song choice but what were you to do? You’ve no mentor. It’s not right.

CHERYL COLE: I have to say you’ve got great taste in music. It’s a great song choice, it’s very sentimental for me, because I feel like I want to be up there singing it with you.
