Dermot O’Leary has defended X Factor finalist Katie Waissel, saying that she ‘copes admirably’ with all the negative media attention.
The 24 year old singer has become one of the most talked about contestants on the show this year and very few of the press reports or stories are positive ones. Speaking about the rough ride Katie’s had so far, Dermot told The News Of The World:
A word or two about Katie. She’s got it in the neck the past few weeks (and the stomach, head and knees, the shots have come from all angles) but she copes admirably.
She’s like Rocky Balboa. Each time she’s put down, she picks herself up, dusts herself off and comes back with a stormer of a performance. Okay, she’s been in the bottom two twice – she hasn’t connected with the public for some reason. But let me tell you the girl can sing, and she’ll keep doing it till she drops!
Katie sang ‘Don’t Speak’ by No Doubt on last night’s X Factor show and after the very derivative performance Dannii Minogue said:
Katie I think for me I didn’t connect with that. It seemed like you were thinking about the performance and where you were moving. I think everybody’s full of nerves and I feel you perform better when you fight on your save me song.
